Chiltepin? Tiny orange pepper from Miami of unknown origin.

A coworker brought me some little orange peppers from his dad's backyard in Miami, FL. I realize it's hard to be helpful w/o a picture of the plant:

I liked it a lot and I think there's enough time left here in Florida ... so I bought a plant ea of: AMARILLEAR, BOD'E, CHILTEPIN AMARILLO/FORT PRESCOTT/McMAHON'S BIRD/PIMA BAJO/SONORAN/TARAHUMARA/TEXAS, and some HERMOSILLO from CCN.

I guess I could read how to procure seeds from the remaining half of the bag, too - that's probably wisest (since I really like them - they were citrsuy and surprisingly hot).

Thanks in advance for any input!

Thats my 'Wild Brazil' variety grown from pepperlover seed. Looks almost identical to me.

I agree - that's nearly identical AND the desciption on the website of tasting like lemon zest fits my sensation of being citrusy. Of course, the site suggests one heats up a meal, and we wanted more from our curry having used twenty ... but that's just us, I think =)

Cheers!

Yeah they almost burst in your mouth when you munch down on one and the heat hits with a strong citrus/fruity taste (almost like skittles) and the heat dies away within 5 mins or so but you are left with the fruity taste in your mouth for much longer after that (like half an hour) and also if you burp up to an hour or so later the taste is still there.
One of the better tasting chilli's in my opinion

Literally that, exactly. I guess I'll buy a pack of seeds to compare with real quick, why not!

Anybody care to share or sell some of their tepin seeds? Yellow and/or orange or both. I've been trying to get a hold of some of those Bazilian Bird Peppers for quite some time now. I can trade as well. I have some nice orange Thai Chili Peppers, some purple pequin which turn from yellow to a deep purple. I also have the native(Mexican/South Texan) pequin and tepin, and some Bhut Jalokia grown here in South Texas so not as hot as those from their native land.

By the way, I noticed someone mixing up Brazilian Pepper to Brazilian Bird Pepper. Brazilian Pepper is more like a big shrub/small tree nowhere close to a chili peper other than the berries do look like tepin from a distance. Some Mexicans also get the Brazilian Pepper mixed up with what they call a pirul tree because they smell very similar.

Anyhow, I'd appreciate anyone selling me some of their seeds if possible.

OK ... time to update this thread ...

I placed an order from CCN for an jalapeno, an aji, a couple other peppers of interest, and then 1 ea of anything that could possibly have been close to this pepper to see if I could zero in on it (what can I say - I *REALLY* liked it) ...

Two plants had yet to produce fruit, after having tried more than a half dozen little tiny peppers only to be extremely disappointed by the lack of citrusy awesomeness ...

And then this morning ... the second to last to have a viable pod ... is close ...

It's CCN's Chiltepin Amarillo and in appearance, it's very close ...

I didn't get the BANG of citrus up front that I got from the wild growing one's a while back, but it could be soil, climate, maturity etc ... especially since I didn't get that original bag until a few days later from when they were picked - they were slightly overripe at the time ... and today's was 'just barely' ripe ... still quite firm ...

The little pod I ate was packed w/ seeds, similar to the original wild one's ... it's definitely close ...

I have seeds from the wild one's ... and I have Pepperlover's Wild Brazil seeds, too ...

I hope the plants I produce from them in the future will be spot on, but if not ... these are in the ball park anyways ...

Wow. I tasted lots of little nasty chiltepin to get to one that was even close.
