CMPMAN1974 - 2012 Grow Log - Started 2/26/12

Well, after a long awaited time, I finally got some seeds in dirt this evening. Wow, it took a long time as some of these names of these varieties are long. :) My theme this year...Pequins/Tepins - rare ones & AFRICA. Also, I think some rare Brazilian varieties will be planted too along with some Pubescens in the next few days. I have no idea how germination will be on some of these African varieties, but it should be fun. I enjoy market varieties and odd stuff found off the beaten path.

Here's what I've got sowed to date. Wish me luck!

Chris

Chris, your glog is a rogue's gallery of fire! It took me half the basketball
game to get here from page 15 tonight. Almost too overwhelming!

"Is it just me or can you see a face in the pod picture of the Nebru variety - the pod on the right?" :)
Sure, I can see the face clearly. Can you see Dick Cheney in the pod on the left? :high:

Thanks for sharing your outstanding grow with us this year, Chris.
Looking forward to see what you come up with for 2013.

Wow, these take forever to ripen. lol. My first ripe pod off 1 of my 3 plants I had to bring indoors! Hey, it's ripe though, right? :)

Nasty weather on the way , looks like what warm weather we had is defiantly over, I will be drying my last few peppers and cutting my four plants I plan to overwinter back. I'll keep them under lights till spring, I hope that they will do better the second year.

Paul G. we keep telling Chris that he needs to compile a few coffee table books for us fans to buy, I bet they would sell out fast when it comes to peppers and the best way to grow then from seed to final pod filled plant, Chris has the jump on most. Bet He could correspond with a couple of his seed buddies to add a few pics of their own. I can see a best seller in the making, at least with us chili Heads.

Hey Chris how has the weather been up your way? Its just been mildly cold, so today I spent most of it pulling dried out Bean and tomato vines and burning them, I'm trying to get the garden ready for next season so I won't have to work on it when i need to be taking care of my seedlings. I'll need to lay my hands on about twenty to forty 5 gallon buckets along with 500 to a 1,000 pounds of top soil and compost, and thats just the tip of the iceberg.

Season is long over, but yesterday I harvested my favorite plant - the giant tree Pequin from Mexico! Quite a haul of peppers. What I show here was ,maybe 1/3rd of what I pulled. The plant has now been cut back. I hope I successfully overwinter it. I can't imagine what it would do 2nd year! The pods are nice, very thick walled, and good heat.

George, the weather has been very cold most days, but this weekend it is perking up a bit (mid 60s). On average, low 50s and down as much as mid 30s a few days. Gardening outdoors is definitely no more this year.

Good luck finding the compost / top soil you need. Transporting that is quite a job!

I think that's a great suggestion! You go, Chris!

Yeah I think so too, first edition "Chinense not fron China" and the second could cover "Pubs,Baccatums and Annuums" and the third could be Called "Frutescens and other wild delights" and to round it off "Mutants I have known" I better get my order in now, maybe I can get a signed edition.
Really though I was looking at some C.chinense and trying to figure where I could put them, as for the top soil and compost I will bribe a dairyman I know, He runs a Organic Dairy and tomato farm. I think I can get a 1/2 ton of each for $40.00 and a case of Beer. I can drop the front fence so he can back up to the garden and just dump it. That would save me a lot of back breaking work.
I have been thinking about getting some T12s and new ballast but they are not cheap I'd like to get some of the fancy LEDs but can't afford them. Oh well I can dream about it, and there is always next year hopefully.

Hi again Chris, I was looking at your list of peppers that your grew wow, so many tepins and C. chinense. Did you happen to grow a C. chinense called Goronong from Malaysia? I know it was not on your list, but was wondering if you had grown it before and how the plants did and what the pods were like?
