Dangler's Gonna Glog It

Never been good about this but going to give a Glog a try.  It's time to start seeds here in Kansas.  Some do it earlier ..... now is when I do it.  I've selected my seeds and divided them into Group A and Group B.
Group A will be started this weekend.  Group A includes most of my hotter varieties.
I use the paper towel method to germinate seeds in lidded cups on temperature controlled heat mats.  Then I will transplant to 3.5" pots  .... more on this later.  I use T5 lighting systems.  Depending on the variety, I will ultimately look for 1X-4X starts.  I growout in 37 raised beds.  I grow as a hobby, to give away, small time sales and to process.
Group A germination candidates are:

7 Pot Burgundy,

7 Pot Nebru,

7 Pot Primo Yellow,

7 Pot Yellow X 7 Pot Douglah,

Bhut Jolokia Arseclown,

Bhut Jolokia Assam Yellow,

Bhut Jolokia Caramel,

Bhut Jolokia Orange Copenhagen,

Bhut Jolokia Peach,

Bhut Jolokia Red,

Bhut Jolokia Salmon,

Bhut Jolokia Texas Firehouse RT,

Bhut Jolokia X Habanero RT,

BOC X Brain Strain,

Bonda Mahala,

Fatali,

Habanero Scorpanero,

Jay's Peach Ghost Scorpion,

Jonah's Yellow Brain,

Mojo Scoundrel,

SB7J Yellow,

Scotch Brains,

Scotch Brains Large Pheno,

Trinidad Scorpion Chocolate,

Trinidad Scorpion Moruga,

Trinidad Scorpion Moruga Yellow,

Yaki Blue Fawn

I'll post Group B as we progress.  Group B is a much larger undertaking .... mostly SBs, annuums and baccatums.  I'll probably start those in a couple weeks.  Looking forward to documenting the season. I'll post the pictures once we get started.

Did you put any weed block material under your raised beds?

Not really.  All of the beds were lined with just cardboard. Weeds have not been an issue in the beds.

We did place landscaping weed block fabric in the aisles (between the beds) before we put down the pea gravel. Even with that, we still get some weeds in the aisles. It seems like I'm always pulling weeds in season.

My wife built my first raised bed ( she didn’t like the 5 gallon bucket look of my garden). Haha. She put down weed block under the bed. I built another raised bed without weed block, I didn’t get any more weeds in #2 bed than #1 bed. But I got a lot more earth worms and night crawlers in #2 than #1. I ended up tearing out weed block from #1 and started getting alot more worms and crawlers in #1. [emoji16]

Hey thanks for the seeds. If you ever want anything else that I have just let me know.

When do you start your tomatoes?

No problem on the seeds ... thanks for the ones you sent.

I've got to finish starting my Group B (annuums and others) this weekend.  The pepper list continues to expand  .  I just received a request to start Kashmiri and Jwala plants and I need to get those going too.

Probably going to start tomatoes this weekend or next.  I'm trying to limit myself to (1) 1804 tray on the tomatoes and I'll probably give more than half of those away.

I've also got to first transplant (into 3.5") most of those pepper plants that have popped so far.

So .... I've got around 7 trays to start (including 1 tray of tomatoes) and those first transplants.

It's gonna be a busy weekend.  Since the WX forecast is shit, I guess I'll be spending several hours in the starting room.

7 trays turned into 9.  I got 7 trays done today (afternoon/night).  Later today (Sunday) I need to do one tray of tomatoes and one more tray of peppers.  I also found 3 or 4 varieties that I forgot. Shit, I need to do the first transplants too.  Signing off for awhile.

All peppers and tomatoes are now started.  I also started a tray of lettuce.

Final totals:  305 pepper plants and 36 tomato plants.  Everything is potted up. Now the wait begins.  6 more weeks.

Geez, you Kansas boys. Never cease to amaze. How many acres are you dedicating to 305 pepper plants (comfortably)?

I played in a rock band out of Baxter Springs/Galena in the mid-80s. Practically down the street from Paola...I guess that makes me a bastige Kansan, yea?

Nice endeavor!
