The 2014 season has just begun.

I planted the first six, on the right, 7 days ago. The second six a few days later.

dammnnnnnn those pods are super gnarlyyyyy...specially that reaper :hell: :hell: :hell:
Thanks Jericson. That cross is looking bad ass. I also have two more growing of that cross. Wondering is any variance will show. This one will be interesting when I get to F2s.

Wow, Jason - great indoor pods, there, buddy!
Your grow is gonna be awesome - can't wait to see it outside.
You and me both! Thanks Paul!

I'm loving it, everyone is prepping for dirt day. Bring it on!
I'm with you on that! Tomorrow is going to be perfect. Gotta till another row and go back over the new rows I tilled last weekend. Dirt day is right around my corner!

Though I would share a few Picts from today.

Jamison's Rennie cutting is doing great. Hardened and ready for it's final home, where ever that may be.

Native azaleas from my front yard. They are pinxterbloom azaleas.

Pulled the black plastic off my two existing raised beds today. I have been cooking the weed seeds as they were taking over. They have been covered for six weeks I think now. After the first couple weeks I looked under and there was about 100+ various spouts per square inch. They were infected bad!
So... Today when lifted the plastic we found snakes!

13979619761310.jpg

That's the first eight. Already moved one away before grabbing the aquarium. Found fifteen total, many when turning the soil. They were in a prime spot under the black plastic to stay warm.
Brown snakes and ring necks. Roughly a foot or more was the longest.
A few close ups.

Also...
A brown egg trying already.

And a few pimenta de neydes.

Happy Easter!

Nice job Jason! It was a treat to see blossoms on the Brown Egg and pods on the PDN... woot!

It must still be fairly cool out your way if the snakes are warming up under the black plastic during the day, but hopefully you'll be able to get your plants in the dirt soon. Continued success!
Thanks Rick. We did just have, what they say is our last, a couple cold days here.
Those snakes knew where to go.
Both beds look awesome. Everything spouted and died, so they are ready to go. We turned both beds, the misses actually did most of the work on those.
I wanted to pull that flower on the brown egg, but had to hit it with some PDN pollen instead. :D

Nice looking plants Jason!

I like the color of the PDN, now I wish I had started the seeds I have, but I was already over my head..

Usually when I see a snake it's one to fear, but 8 at one time? Cool thing is they control rodents.

Dirt day next week?

Happy Easter!

Nice snakes! Nicer peppers.

Some colleagues of mine prep trenches in Gujurat India. Every morning they would be full of cobras, and one of the workers would have to go into the trenches and remove them. Apparently they hired a couple of local guys who were immune to cobra venom. Good thing, because the villagers were loath to actually hurt the cobras.

When you gonna start moving plants into the ground? Or has it started? Figured you'd be a couple weeks after me, though it looks like I should have waited another week or two! That would put you ideally what next or the weekend after? Gotta do whatcha gotta do.

Can't wait till you have an ocean of pods up there. Keep on growing strong bud! The seeds you gave me are really kicking butt.

Everything looks top notch, Jason. Can't wait to see your garden into full swing! Also curious about all the crosses you got up your sleeve :) Happy Easter!
Thank you Stefan! It won't be long. Weather is prime. The hardening has begun.
I have a few crosses going and using the PDN pollen when I can. It's viable for sure, resulting in early pods. I have snuck a few more in. ;)

Nice plants and cool snakes!
Thanks Tick. I enjoy having the nonvenomous snakes around. Was cool to see so many at one time. :)

Thank you Scott. The PDN is a beautiful plant. It's one that keeps the misses happy too. Will let you know how the pods are soon. Should be a few week away, just have to figure out when they are ripe. I have given them a pinch a couple times and they are still quite firm. I will most likely wait till they are mushy overripe to collect seeds.
Started hardening off the first plants. Will move more out soon. I could potentially put plants in the ground this weekend.
Those snakes are not to be feared. They are all tiny bug eaters. A mouse or rat might eat them. We do have rattlers in Ga, but copperheads and water moccasins are mainly what we have to watch out for.
Hope your week is going well.

Thanks Adam. Glad everything is growing good! I might stick some in the ground this weekend. I have some more tilling and shoveling before I can download. Hoping to get that done this weekend.
I don't mind the little snakes in the yard, but cobras! Forget that! I don't envy Lourens in South Africa with poisonous snakes oh plenty, speaking of cobras.
It won't be long on pods.

See the first ripening pod of the year in the jigsaw thread! Posted the picture there!

Have a great week Adam!

+1 Jamie!!!  Good Gawd, Jason.  What a list of starts!
Your plants are looking robust and healthy, and that azalea flower
is stunning - almost remind me of tropical hibiscus flowers.  Nice.

Your progeny here are doing just great, brother!

Everythiing looking amazing brotha man!  If I found snakes in the garden, i'd be flippin out.  I'm deathly scared of snakes man.  I can't believe you grabbed em up and put em in the fish tank.  You are a brave soul.  Can't wait to see that garden planted man.  I'm thinking tomorrow for me.  I just need to decide If I want to make raised rows or not.  I have it raked out flat right now but....
