Heefys 2019 Grow (UK)

Rocotos, started in November. Chinense and baccatums have been started in December. Just some stragglers to sow now.

This year is much more balanced than previous years. So far I have around:

10 x c.annuum varieties. All yet to sow.

19 x c.baccatum varieties, including 13 of my own varieties/crosses at F1, F2 and F3 stages, if not further. All but a few of these are sown.

25 x c.chinense varieties, including 9 of my own crosses. Not all have germinated yet, so the figure may go down. Includes the first Chockwork Orange F2’s. A chocolate version of the Clockwork Orange.

9 x c.pubescens varieties, including 4 of my own varieties/crosses.

1 x c.fruxim variety of my own. Not sure I showed it to you. I had five seeds to work with and none of them looked viable. I now have 4 seedlings!

I am still waiting on a few varieties from last year. CAP 306 c.baccatum is ripening, as are most of the wild varieties, Galapagoense, Flexuosum, Rhomboideum. These are in a tent and at low temps in a garage.

Things are up and running and going well.

All this years Rocoto have been potted on and look fabulous!

Just waiting on the last few to loop and then plant the annuums in January or February.

I am really diggin your set up Heefy...very clean and efficient looking. Starts look great as well....Wishing you nothing but success for 2019 sir!
Thanks mate. Appreciate it. All is currently going well. Only lost one seedling this year, which started life as a weekling and was yellow. That variety has been re-seeded from fresh seed.

I currently have some very reasonable looking plants and seedlings. I’m sure that will change, when the pests come.

Glad to hear your seedlings are doing well. Looking
forward to seeing some of your specimens, Heefy!

Put up the yellow sticky cards now!

Good thinking with the sticky cards. I have one up and need a few more.

The Rocotos and a few lucky chinense varieties. These are sat on a self watering mat, that works quite nicely.

In decending size, the early chinense and my baccatum crosses. These are a little yellow, in places, and are being strictly watered, to prevent over watering.

The seedlings, and some still germinating. These are in a heated Prop.

Two seedlings in each sponge. All the same variety, yet two are either a darker leaf pheno or they are producing more anthocyanin, in reaction to the lighting. Interesting and time will tell.

A Black Chupertinho. I really like the leaf colouring.

One of my Rocoto crosses. These are growing well this year. Most are budding up really well, so I am picking them off now. All energy should be directed to producing bigger plants that produce better in late summer.

Weather here is unseasonably warm. Day/Night temps of 12/9 degrees C or 53/48 F. I’m sure that won’t last long!

Very nice set-up, Heefy. I like the watering mat table a lot.

Plants look like they are doing well for you!

It’s is a godsend. Saves me time, and works really well, for all but the most awkward plants. I just fill the reservoir and leave it for two or three weeks.

I am pleased with things so far.

Yesterday, I finally managed to cut and fit the insect mesh to the air vents. Now I just need to be careful with what I transport in there on my clothing, from elsewhere or the over wintered tent.

Things are chugging along nicely here. Temps are still above average, but due to drop in the next day or two.

The early plants are budding profusely now and I am trying to twist the buds off at an early stage.

And a few random plants that look ok.

Brown egg, showing a bit of anthocyanin to the leaves.

His sibling, showing a lot more anthocyanin. You can see where part of a leaf was shaded and is distinctively much more green.

A Black Chupertinho, doing its thing, with its shades on!

One of my Rocoto crosses. Rocoto Sangre Rojo. It seems to have a natural habit with the leaves looking almost droopy.

You have some great growth Heefy .... SB x Hab Salmon flying my end ....thanks to you and the SLCB
Is there a pic over at your glog. Always interested in seeing how things turn out.

I am growing in coir and cork. Initially I forgot about that and was just watering as normal. Then noticed some yellowing. First I figured I was over watering, then realised they needed the PH adjusting and some feed. (facepalm)

Then they took off! Hooray.

I was away for two weeks and they were left to fend for themselves. Fortunately the watering mats work very well and I didn’t loose a single plant.

Aji Picante. A new one to me this year. It was from very old seed, so really pleased I got one sprout.

Extremely excited about this accidental cross between a Fatalii Yellow and what can only be presumed some form of Brainstrain. Large yellow bumpy gnarly pods, last season so going to grow out. Thanks to a grower on a UK forum.

These produce a pod similar in shape, colour and size to the PDN x BMJ that is being grown out here. First time growing this one, so no idea on the taste profile yet.

I saw the very talented, Yvonne B , post a pic of this at the tail end of last year and had to have it. Black Chupertinho.

One of my many crosses, and to date the tastiest, by far! Last year this was an absolute winner. Guyana x Aji Fantasy. Very excited about this one.

Another cross, where the original Trinidad Scorpion Yellow, has crossed or mutated and forms a stunning flying saucer [emoji2933] shape.
