Heefys 2019 Grow (UK)

Rocotos, started in November. Chinense and baccatums have been started in December. Just some stragglers to sow now.

This year is much more balanced than previous years. So far I have around:

10 x c.annuum varieties. All yet to sow.

19 x c.baccatum varieties, including 13 of my own varieties/crosses at F1, F2 and F3 stages, if not further. All but a few of these are sown.

25 x c.chinense varieties, including 9 of my own crosses. Not all have germinated yet, so the figure may go down. Includes the first Chockwork Orange F2’s. A chocolate version of the Clockwork Orange.

9 x c.pubescens varieties, including 4 of my own varieties/crosses.

1 x c.fruxim variety of my own. Not sure I showed it to you. I had five seeds to work with and none of them looked viable. I now have 4 seedlings!

I am still waiting on a few varieties from last year. CAP 306 c.baccatum is ripening, as are most of the wild varieties, Galapagoense, Flexuosum, Rhomboideum. These are in a tent and at low temps in a garage.

Things are up and running and going well.

All this years Rocoto have been potted on and look fabulous!

Just waiting on the last few to loop and then plant the annuums in January or February.

I keep finding Ladybirds and rehousing them in the tent. Another 5 today. Hopefully they will make a dent in the Aphids on my chillies and other exotics.

Did a big pot on today. Managed about half the chillies in to the three litre pots. These are the last pots before plant out. It’s at this stage I realise how short on space I am!

Hiding at the back of the tray was this cheeky little Roco. I have been picking buds off all over the place and yet two plants have managed to set pods. Two little pods already! That caught me out.

And another plant.

Awesome catalogue of plants, Heefy. Some beautiful
purple varieties on display. Should produce a beautiful
grow for you this summer.

Here is a short picture update. It’s all getting a bit crazy in the Chilli Shed. Chillies have been joined by tomatoes, cucumbers, cannas, ginger, and citrus.

It’s a squeeze for the next 4 weeks.

Above are the youngest ones. They seem to have had a small growth spurt recently.

Rocotos hidden by some tall chinense and baccatums.

Mostly chinense varieties.

Annuums and some cannas.

The remaining bunch.

I am letting my crosses flower and fruit, in the 3 litre pots. That way I get early, isolated fruits and seeds for the next generation.

The remaining I am picking flowers off, for a bit longer.

Looking forward to the clocks going forward.

Hey Heefy, I've been looking forward to your update.  Things are looking well and ready to move onward.  It's definitely "squeeze" time about now.  How are you isolating your indoor crosses?  Just keeping them a bit apart from each other with no pollinating insects around other or are you taking any additional precautions?

We just had DST kick in locally a couple weeks back and it's such a good thing - except for the lost hour I suppose.

I’m not doing anything special, to isolate. I do a fair bit of manual pollination to increase chances of fruit and reduce flower drop. None of the plants have been outside yet and all forms of ventilation has been fitted with a micro mesh. That was primarily to reduce the chances of Aphids getting to the plants. Seems to have worked so far.

Once they are out in final positions, I will use a few mesh bags on select plants and branches for a reasonable chance of protection.

There are a few now producing pods too.

Minor photo update on pods that are setting.

Very nice! Very early start and you're killin' it! If you wanna try a third source of CGN 21500 next season or whenever, I'd be glad to send some seeds of the one I grew in 2017. Here are a couple pics from then.

Thanks for you kind words. I have two plants of CGN 21500 from a very well known source. I will see what the second plant produces, as well as what later pods look like. As you know sometimes early pods will be odd shapes.

I very much appreciate your offer of seeds and will be in touch. You are a star ⭐️.

Yep, I love the look of your 21500s. Very nice looking pods.
