Melissa77754 2012 Glog

Hey Everyone
icon_smile.gif

So I figured it is about time I start a Grow log of my own and I will do my very best to keep it up to date. With two kiddos and a massive amount of plants my days can be pretty hectic. I grew jalapenos and serranos last season, had a decent harvest considering the small pot size I used. In July I met a nice lady giving away hot pepper seeds to newbies on GW, decided to give them a try, August met Smokemaster through a generous SASBE offer and the rest is history!! lol

I started a batch in late August so I have some "overwinters" if you will, living in SoCal I can grow year round with the right protection from time to time. I started out with a cheap 12'x7' hoop house and when the winds thrashed that I bought two 6x8 with shelving, still the cheaper plastic hot house type but the shelving makes it heavy and the winds don't phase it. I also have a 6x6 indoor tent with a 4 bulb T5 and 2 monster size CFL's. The growth indoors versus out does not even compare, T5's are amazing! Have to thank my bro for giving me that fixture.

I am hoping I didn't bite off more than I can chew being it's my first real season growing super hots mainly. I plan to sell some plants along the way to help fund my pepper growing addiction

My log will be pretty picture heavy which I am sure most will not mind! Enjoy and happy pepper growing to everyone!!

its got that wonderful citrus Aji flavor and a little heat, i think you will like it, hey do a review on it!!, i doubt anyone else has ever done one on it!

did you get the seeds from TucaBail from Brazil? that's where i got mine
very nice plant

thanks your friend Joe

Melissa,
How did your "Purple Bhut Jolokia" tree fare out. Did you get some larger pods as the plant bushed out. The plants that I had produced decent, I wasn't sold on the flavor of the pods. How bout yours?

Nice update, Melissa plants are looking healthy! That is a big fat tail on the Brainstrain  Have you tasted the El oro de equador yet, I'm thinking of having it next season but I'm curious about the flavor...

Hi Stefan! :) I have tasted the el oro, it's one of my favorites! Not only do they taste great, it is also a very prolific plant! It gets really large and just pumps out the pods non stop. The flavor is very citrusy with a mild heat, you can easily pop a whole pod in your mouth without it being a scorcher. Let me know if you need some seeds! :)

plants look lush and healthy.. cant wait to adopt!!....your reapers look bigger than mine.. aahaha and i sowed before.. oh well.. you sure do know how to grow

Thanks D! I just potted up a reaper and primo from you last night, they should take off now. Anything I start inside under T5's takes off, not sure I will even bother to germinate outdoors in the future! I will have an extra purple bhut seedling for you. The deck is finally done for my greenhouse, sunday is going to be assembly day!

Thank you Joe! I love the el oro, baccatums in general seem to be my favorite. I really need to add more to the grow for next year! I got my seeds from smokemaster. Hope all is well :)

Hi Greg! My poor poor purple bhut, it got attacked by mites and is still alive but lost all it's leaves. :( The pods prior to it getting "sick" were about 2" long. Nick's plant that I gave him is still going strong, pods are about the same size. They are pretty hot, not super level though. I enjoyed the flavor, added to salsa and I loved the flavor! It is a really beautiful plant so I will continue to grow. I will have to snap a pic of it, mites are no more but the damage is done. If it doesn't bounce back I started a new seedling for myself. I really need to figure out what to do about my fence line on both sides, my neighbors ice plants that grow over my fence are always infested with mites. I have sprayed them many times, hosed that side down with a high pressure nozzle and yet they still return. Their yards are well kept except for these stupid useless plants they both have, not only are they invasive but it attracts too many bad bugs as well! My front planter got hit by grubs this year too, by the time I realized it the damage was done. I had to pull everything out, load up the soil with nematodes and milky spore and wait. Grubs are gone, the ones that are left are pure white from the spore and knocking at deaths door! I learned a whole lot this season, next year I will be prepared! Hope all is well Greg :)

They are nice peppers indeed Joe! I have a plant that Melissa gave me and it is one that will stay in my garden. They stay nice and crunchy, thick walls w/ some good heat and flavor! We do need to do a another review soon though.I was thinking we should do your Peach T.S. for our next one,we'll see if we can get some in this thanksgiving for all you guys.

NICK

Nice to see you back in action Mel. This place was starting to look like a desert with all the Northerners done growing for the year  . Well most of them anyway. Keep the pics coming and the garden flowing.
