My carnivorous plants [Pictures heavy]

Question for Maiden as I may have missed it. But I was wondering what your mix is that your using for a medium for the heliamphora ? thank you

A very airy one. I use 33/33/33 peat/perlite/fafard orchid mix

The orchid mix is in fact oak/maple chunks with a lil bit of limestone.
My heliamphoras are lovely colored after this cold winter :)

Beautiful plants thanks for sharing. I've recently picked up some interesting Sarracenia purpurea subsp. purpurea and venosa plants and hybrids. Just starting to really catch the bug. Still looking for more and S. Rosea.  I've been searching ebay for heliamphora, hopefully when it warms up a little I can score something nice.
Cheers

Thank you. This is what's on the plant tag.

I have some Heliamphora on the way and will have some questions for you later next week if you get a chance to check this thread.

Cheers

Hi everyone,

I have had a Nepenthes for a couple years or so, but recently ordered some Sundews (Hookeri, Capensis, and Cistiflora).  I put them in the area to guard my seedlings because I was getting winged aphids and aphids attacking my new growth.  Meanwhile, I got lucky and it looks like my Capensis is going to flower!!  Yay!  Anywho, aphids have attached to the flower stem. The one other plant on my list at this time is d. hartmeyerorum  so will be looking for seeds.

QUESTION:  I suppose the aphids didn't know it was a hostile plant for them.  They should not affect this Capensis, right?

Enjoy!

Yes aphid will affect your plant. You will have to unpot your plant, cut the stalk, immerge the plant in water (completely) for 3-4 days. This will kill all the eggs too. Just repot the plant after in new soil, from a new soil bag(peat moss?) Thrash your old one, trust me. Aphids eggs are probably inside.

I am curious why do you say magic and best genus ?

Also thank you for the advice on my aphid issue. I have the plant soaking in distilled water now. Completely submerged. Cut the flower stock. Who knew aphids were destructive to carnivores?

Thank you!

Around 70°F-72°F day around 62°F-64°F night 75%-90% humidity. Under 216 watts of T5 light. I would like to put these in the same mix you are using and have all the ingredients, have any tips or recommendations?  Should I repot? I have them sitting in a few MM of rain water. Watering through once a week with either rain water or distilled water. I have given them a little Great white shark mycor in the water. Also misted lightly twice with 1/4 tsp to 1 gallon water of organic fish/seaweed emulsion.

Couple better pics from today- they have really put on some nice color and growth since I have had them.  Thanks for any help. Cheers

Very easy to grow in your apartment if you setup a terrarium. Just takes time And learning what they need

Any inexpensive terrariums you can recommend? The Vflytraps do show up in the stores and want to by a few but want a proper set-up so they have a chance, I have the light, so thats not a problem.

Maybe see if any sales at the pet store :)
