PaulG 2019

No grow log for the 2018 season other than the Pimenta de Neyde x Bonda Ma Jacques
thread dedicated to Trippa's cross. That one is an ongoing community project going into
second year and a test of the F7 generation. I imagine I will mention it once-in-a-while in
this thread, but the details of its progress will be in the dedicated thread.

I am deciding on a grow list for the 2019 season after growing only Trippa's cross this
season (2018). I definitely have some old favorites that will comprise the great majority
of the grow. I have limited space, so I'm counting on nature to help me make the final
decision. I'll probably start lots of seeds since I'm gun-shy from the poor germination
rates the past couple of seasons.

Here's the pool. Would be nice to be able to grow a bunch of all of them!  I think my
neighbor will shelter the overflow in his yard, but we'll see what to plant and how many
based on what might germinate

c. chinese - 10 varieties
  • PdN x BMJ, F7, white and violet varieties, Trippa's cross
  • Fatali, F2 of seed from Pepper Joe's
  • 7 Pot Burgundy, brown phenotype, pecan shape from 2017 F2 of the 7PB from Windchicken
  • Scotch Bonnet, MoA, F2 of seeds from John/Sim, not high production, but some nice pods
  • JA Red Habanero, F5 of seed from Walk Good/Devv
  • Yellow Scorpion, F7 aka Yellow Trinidad Moruga Scorpion and CARDI Scorpion, from Spankycolts plant 2012
  • Bhut Jolokia, Red, F4, from Spankycolts plant 2012
  • Bhut Jolokia, Chocolate, F3 of seed from Georgia Growhead
  • Bhut Jolokia, hybrid, F2 - I believe it is a  (BJred) x (Pdn x BMJ F1 or F2)
  • Yellow 7 Pot, F2 of seed from Trippa 2013
c. annuum - 4 varieties:
  • JA Red Mushroom, F3, brown phenotype, seed from Refining Fire
  • Pimenta de Padron - Spanish seed, fry up while small and green, throw on some salt
  • Pimenta del Piquillo - Spanish seed, sweet, very flavorful, small stuffers
  • Guindilla - Spanish seed, spicy heat, great pickled, long and skinny
c. frutescens - 2 varieties:
  • Nagahari from Tezpur, India, supposedly very, very hot freebie from Pepper Joe's 2017
  • Chili Costa Rica, F2 (2014) from Hippy Seed Company seed, 2012
c. pubescens - 1 variety:
  • Red Rocoto, F3 of Peruvian Market seed, 2016
That about does it. Seeding time will be here before we know it!

Thanks, my friend, I can always count on
you for a good word! I still have four Sri Lanka
seeds if you want.  It's not too late

I don't have any real hope for the grow down
win, but since Andy has the fix in, I might get
2nd!
No thanks on the seeds...got too much going on as it is. Retirement looming...flipping another house...working on securing post-Navy employment. blah blah blah...

Keep that growdown glass half full my friend! This one is total pod weight??? You consider a hydro grow for it? I've had great luck with DWC, but outdoors keeping the water in the proper temp range can be a PIA.

Haven't done much with hydro. Using it to
root out seedlings and cuttings seems like
a great way to prepare for the 18-oz. containers.
I have thought about it, but I will just probably
do my standard 18-gallon container grow. I do
want to give the other participants a chance,
too   :liar:

You know.

Stuck in a rut   :shh:

edit: Nice PT, Buster!

Yeah, Scott. It's a beast all right! First seed to hook,
and a head taller than its contemporaries, big leaves
sticking straight out. A monster!

Do you know it's heritage beyond Rich?

No, I don't know it's heritage.

I would have loved to see that 6 foot plant kick it in the late summer-fall last season; bhut it hated the close to 3.5 feet of rain. I know many said the pods were great, mine were Moruga like   LOL

You meant 81 gallon right? Have you seen these last couple growdowns? Lol
I know, Andy. I may have to stack up several of
the 18s to make a larger container

Good looking plants my friend.
18 gallons is pretty big, a lot of soil
Thanks GPR!

I just leave the soil in the pots year to
year, and amend it a bit each Spring.
An 18-20 gallon container is pretty
much like growing in the ground

Transplanted the BJ hybrid, the 7 Pot
Burgundy, and the Mystery Pepper
into 2-liter squares. Now just a few
more seedlings to transplant over
the next 2-3 weeks. Then it will be
time to start the annuums.

Ah ok, I can understand that one. I need to get a bunch 10 gals myself except my plants dont ever move out... bunch of millennials

AeroGarden doing a few odd jobs. Trying to germinate
some stubborn Chili Costa Rica 2015 seed (AeroGarden
plugs and little square dome). The square dome has a
CCR with a tiny radicle I plucked from the Aero Garden.
The round dome has a BJ hybrid (3" pod seed) trying
to hook. The RockWool cubes have a BJ hybrid (3" pod
seed) and the fourth Sri Lanka Red. The little plant in
the center is the BJ hybrid sprout I pulled out of the
RockWool cube the oldest SLR is in.

See...that little uprooted hybrid is already rocking the true leaves...

Oh Paul I wanted to ask don't you give your plants a diluted fert ?
If so when do you start?
Hey Jason, thanks for looking in!

I start with 1/2 strength AK Fish Fertilizer
when the first set of true leaves are grown
out. After a couple of waterings, I go up to
full strength.

In the RockWool cubes, I water with Shultz
Instant 10-15-10 at about 3/4 strength.

At first potting up, I start adding Silica Blast
and Cal-Mag to the routine, along with some
AK MorBloom

Yeah, buddy. Pretty amazing what the
little seedlings can withstand and just
keep on goin'!

Your own grow is looking absolutely killer, Shane!
