PaulG 2019

No grow log for the 2018 season other than the Pimenta de Neyde x Bonda Ma Jacques
thread dedicated to Trippa's cross. That one is an ongoing community project going into
second year and a test of the F7 generation. I imagine I will mention it once-in-a-while in
this thread, but the details of its progress will be in the dedicated thread.

I am deciding on a grow list for the 2019 season after growing only Trippa's cross this
season (2018). I definitely have some old favorites that will comprise the great majority
of the grow. I have limited space, so I'm counting on nature to help me make the final
decision. I'll probably start lots of seeds since I'm gun-shy from the poor germination
rates the past couple of seasons.

Here's the pool. Would be nice to be able to grow a bunch of all of them!  I think my
neighbor will shelter the overflow in his yard, but we'll see what to plant and how many
based on what might germinate

c. chinese - 10 varieties
  • PdN x BMJ, F7, white and violet varieties, Trippa's cross
  • Fatali, F2 of seed from Pepper Joe's

  • Bhut Jolokia, Red, F4, from Spankycolts plant 2012

  • Bhut Jolokia, hybrid, F2 - I believe it is a  (BJred) x (Pdn x BMJ F1 or F2)
  • Yellow 7 Pot, F2 of seed from Trippa 2013
c. annuum - 4 varieties:
  • JA Red Mushroom, F3, brown phenotype, seed from Refining Fire
  • Pimenta de Padron - Spanish seed, fry up while small and green, throw on some salt
  • Pimenta del Piquillo - Spanish seed, sweet, very flavorful, small stuffers
  • Guindilla - Spanish seed, spicy heat, great pickled, long and skinny
c. frutescens - 2 varieties:
  • Nagahari from Tezpur, India, supposedly very, very hot freebie from Pepper Joe's 2017
  • Chili Costa Rica, F2 (2014) from Hippy Seed Company seed, 2012
c. pubescens - 1 variety:
  • Red Rocoto, F3 of Peruvian Market seed, 2016
That about does it. Seeding time will be here before we know it!

So,  at least a whole day or so right?  If I load up the dehydrator, it sometimes takes a couple of days...

Depends on the number of trays I have going. At the low
tempo it takes several days for thicker pods, maybe a little
less for the thin-walled ones.

Nice pulls Paul!

I'm hoping for something this fall....But, I have this feeling we're going from hot to cold early this year. who knows. I would love a name so I can blame someone..who's that guy who invented the Internet? It has to be his fault.. :shh:

Yellow BrainStrain coming to the end of the line.
There have been lots of nice pods this season for
a plant that almost died during the Spring Suck!

I really Iiked the yellow beret type pod tops caused
by the tough floral ring pinching the pods:

Pulled some nice pods from the BrainStrain
between cold spells. You can see the remnants
of the floral ring on the pod at the left at the image:

Hoping, hoping, hoping... MoA Scotch Bonnets on
the way?

We have had 4 or 5 nights flirting with a frost in
the past 10 days or so, so have been taking pods.

Pulled this bunch of Scorpions so they wouldnt
split and rot:

Put them in a paper bag to ripenup a little more:

Have not, DW. Have seen lots of different types on
various on line vendors portals. Seems like an interesting idea.

I have some 10x25 and 10x50 pieces. They work well to protect the plants quite a ways below freezing. I didn't cut back my mama plants for the winter shelter until January 15 this year. You can see this stuff in action in the March and April sections of my grow log.

Paul, great to see you're still pulling in such good harvests!  Temps here supposed to bump back up again some after tonight, so hopefully we still have some time.

I've used this stuff. Have some now I might put out next cold snap.  Works just fine, but it's so light it can be a pain to work with (doesn't really have the weight to drape and stay put well while you're working with it).  It's a particular pain working with it in the wind.

That must be one hottie honey of an air freshener![emoji15][emoji106]
You know it[emoji16]. I had to make a window screen pouch to keep the peppers from floating all over. The first day of drying I have to have the windows down while driving. After that it smells great [emoji106][emoji16]

Purple Thunder BJh-1. Still at least this many
on the plant waiting to ripen up:

Seed pods around the outside.

Pulled the three pods off the BJh, red in the greenhouse:

Some not quite all the way ripe Fatalis, the last two
large Yellow BrainStrain, and a handful of Goats Weed
from the 3-gallon plant in the greenhouse.

The greenhouse Goats Weed pods are very uniform in size:

Dryer tray full of Purple Thunder BJh-2.
Halved pods for seed harvesting:

Threw this broken MoA Bonnet branch full of
green pods on the refuse heap a while back
and forgot about it. When I looked today, I found
a branch full of ripening pods!

Sorry if I missed it Paul, but what's that wire mesh you use on your dehydrator trays? I need something like that!
