No grow log for the 2018 season other than the Pimenta de Neyde x Bonda Ma Jacques
thread dedicated to Trippa's cross. That one is an ongoing community project going into
second year and a test of the F7 generation. I imagine I will mention it once-in-a-while in
this thread, but the details of its progress will be in the dedicated thread.

I am deciding on a grow list for the 2019 season after growing only Trippa's cross this
season (2018). I definitely have some old favorites that will comprise the great majority
of the grow. I have limited space, so I'm counting on nature to help me make the final
decision. I'll probably start lots of seeds since I'm gun-shy from the poor germination
rates the past couple of seasons.

Here's the pool. Would be nice to be able to grow a bunch of all of them!  I think my
neighbor will shelter the overflow in his yard, but we'll see what to plant and how many
based on what might germinate

c. chinese - 10 varieties
  • PdN x BMJ, F7, white and violet varieties, Trippa's cross
  • Fatali, F2 of seed from Pepper Joe's
  • 7 Pot Burgundy, brown phenotype, pecan shape from 2017 F2 of the 7PB from Windchicken
  • Scotch Bonnet, MoA, F2 of seeds from John/Sim, not high production, but some nice pods
  • JA Red Habanero, F5 of seed from Walk Good/Devv
  • Yellow Scorpion, F7 aka Yellow Trinidad Moruga Scorpion and CARDI Scorpion, from Spankycolts plant 2012
  • Bhut Jolokia, Red, F4, from Spankycolts plant 2012
  • Bhut Jolokia, Chocolate, F3 of seed from Georgia Growhead
  • Bhut Jolokia, hybrid, F2 - I believe it is a  (BJred) x (Pdn x BMJ F1 or F2)
  • Yellow 7 Pot, F2 of seed from Trippa 2013
c. annuum - 4 varieties:
  • JA Red Mushroom, F3, brown phenotype, seed from Refining Fire
  • Pimenta de Padron - Spanish seed, fry up while small and green, throw on some salt
  • Pimenta del Piquillo - Spanish seed, sweet, very flavorful, small stuffers
  • Guindilla - Spanish seed, spicy heat, great pickled, long and skinny
c. frutescens - 2 varieties:
  • Nagahari from Tezpur, India, supposedly very, very hot freebie from Pepper Joe's 2017
  • Chili Costa Rica, F2 (2014) from Hippy Seed Company seed, 2012
c. pubescens - 1 variety:
  • Red Rocoto, F3 of Peruvian Market seed, 2016
That about does it. Seeding time will be here before we know it!

@ Stettoman: Keep your eyes peeled, buddy. Incoming!

Finally, a hook from one of the 3-inch Bhut Jolokia
hybrid seeds. They went for 0% in Round One, and
16% in this seeding.

So...excuse my age-induced ignernce, but is #441 what you've been going around calling a "PT"? I should attempt that more often, there's a feeling of power over OP's glogs, and some of us take it where we can get it!

We aren't supposed to rise above the freezing point for the foreseeable future (yep, even the weather guessers are stumped this year), so I hope you bundled those poor little darlin's appropriately... :high:

Sorry you are locked in a deep freeze, Eric. Looks
like most of the country is in the same boat. Good
luck trying to get underway!

Couple more weeks of crappy weather then its supposed to be a much better spring then last year at least..have a link here with some pretty nice predictions f they get it right.....also shows where the jet stream was last year compaired to where it will be this year.

I hope that is indeed the case, Matty.
I need to check out our long range
forecast.

Just looked. Sort of the same here. Mid-March
sees a little turnaround. Daytime temps for mid-
March and April are near-normal, but the nights
are above normal. That seems strange, but if it's
true I'll take it. that means green housing without
heaters on!

We had what may have been the worst growing season I've ever survived last year; Spring was rain & cold, right up till June, where it just got HAWT. Then it rained and got cold. First frost was September 1. I muddled through it, and learned that 1) Rocotos hated it, 2) Chinense loved it, #) Anuums didn't seem to notice, though my Big Jims were mostly picked green, so...

Yeah, a good Spring (and Fall) would boost my optimism....

I took a video "virtual" tour of your Willamette Valley last night, Paul. It's prettier than I remembered it (was in a rock band in the late 80s, we played the Ranch in Salem and the Buzzsaw in Albany, both I'm sure are long gone).

This forum really shows me how much longer Florida's grow season is. I'm in north Florida and frost was late December-early February, barely longer than a month.

Though I'm sure I will pay for it in overheated plants and pest numbers. . Kudos to all you folks fighting winter!!

I wish. It's mostly like a steam bath here. Much more AC than heating so far this year. I haven't put a fire in the stove in more than a month. Hardly used any firewood this year. I haven't filled the ash can three times yet and most of what I burned is yard trash and tree trimmings.

I heard we'll be back in long sleeves and a jacket again next week for a day or two..

Too bad you and Eric can't just sort
of average out your weather!

Hook at 22 days  but...

...wouldn't ya know it, my only BJ hybrid from the
3'' pod seed came up with a helmet on. These
are looking at the seed husk from both sides.

It looks like the seed casing is splitting. You can
see it if you look hard. I think I'll just keep it moist
for now and see what happens:

Our 10% freeze date is 19 May. The upside is
that our summer heat gets into low 100s sporadically,
but averages in the high 70s, low 80s, so no real
heat waves or hurricanes,

Looks like the split in the cotyledons is out and it should be ok!  I've had a run of a few bad ones in the past few days for whatever reason after not seeing any in a long time.
The cotys were having a hard time getting out,
so I had to perform a little surgery. Patient is
okay for the most part. I am batting 1.000 on
seed husk removals!

Hope that "More to come..." isn't a response to my comment on my recent helmet heads!  ;) Sorry, CD, didn't mean to leave you dangling!
Nah, I just had to leave my post
unfinished for a bit.

Rearranged the workbench. A few edema issues
from lack of moving air. I also think bottom watering
has something to do with it as well none of the plants
I water from the top have it.

This BJ Hybrid is showing its daddys purple
genes, and some ruffling on the fat leaves.

Looking great, especially with the rockwool plants  :P
One would be surprised how long they can stay in those little starter plugs.
That's for sure, Rasmus!
This season is my first try with the RockWool,
and these are the first ones I've not transplanted
right away.  I'm going to transplant each one at 3
weeks.

Nothing fancy here, I'm using Shulz Instant house
plant food, 10-15-10 at 1/2 strength to water the
cubes. In general, I really like RockWool.

Right now I am batting 1 for 4 or seed husk removals so you are doing better than myself. Beautiful plants Sir!

It's not something I like to do.
I've been lucky this season.

Thanks for the kind words, Zippy!
Hope the season is going well for you.
