SKULLBIKER’S Let’s See How It Goes in 2018 GLOG

I thought that after a year off because I could barely walk(I have a new knee now that is working much better), that I would try to post another glog. Im not going super wild and Im using seeds saved or purchased from 2013 to 2015, with most of them from the older end of the range! Im going to try for 1 or 2 each on the super-hots and 2 to many on the more edible, table friendly peppers. As usual, I will go heavy on the jalapenos and cherry bombs. Anyway here is my list. (subject to change without notice)

How are your bugs doing?  Hopefully, they are still good guys!

I just saw those on a couple of plants at that time and haven’t seen any on the plants since. The only thing I see eating on some plant leaves are the tiny grasshoppers that we seem to have this year.

You too?

I never have had as many grasshoppers as we have this year. I am awaiting them to turn into a biblical locust swarm.

Fortunately, I also have an abundance of praying mantis.

That's good, I suppose, as long as their appetites don't change. Our stink bugs don't have a taste for foliage, just the fruit.

I guess I better keep an eye out for the little buggers.

Do you save seeds for the Cajun Belle, or are you using the original commercial seeds?
I save seeds, that is what mine are grown from(all open pollinated). I started with the commercial seeds about 4 or 5 years ago.

That's interesting!

I was under the impression that the Cajun Belle was a commercial hybrid.  That usually means is should be an F1 and the seeds won't grow true, if they will even grow at all.

But your pictures look pretty close to other pictures I've seen of Cajun Belle peppers.

I've read that some people will call their seeds "hybrid" to lock the seed vendors into getting their seeds from the original source.  But in reality, they may not be true hybrids.

Did you have much variation the first few years you grew the Cajun Belle from saved seeds?

I have not noticed any variation in pods other than a few off pheno pods, usually on a plant with true looking pods. I am quite sure that at some point they will cross with something else in the pepper patch as I have so many plants and varieties placed close to each other.

The first smallish pods off of the Devils Brain in Kratky Hydro.

On a sad note, my Jonahs Yellow Brain in Kratky is now deceased due to lack of moisture in the reservoir. oops. There will be no photo as we all know what a large dead pepper plant looks like.

All posts really great pics and beautiful peppers.

How was the Jimmy Nardello peppers?

Thanks, just pics from the iphone camera. The Jimmy Nardellos were real good, I diced up a couple and and tossed them in my cold pasta salad. Today I took a few more along with the Colossal Hybrids and a couple of Beaver Dam peppers and fried them up in extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic and a little salt and pepper. Awsome taste! [emoji39]
