The Spicy Meatless Thread... (ya I went there)

I know going into this that this thread is going to get meat bombed... but there's gotta be at least a couple other people on this forum that have herbivore tendencies.  Lately almost everything I have been cooking has been meat-free unless its for the dogs.  I've been toying with recipes and finding ways to get the flavors of dishes that usually have animal muscle as the main feature.  Hopefully some of y'all do the same from time to time and we can swap and share some spicy veggie recipes. I've held off on making this thread for a while because I know the ridicule that will inevitably come, but I guess its better to clog my own thread with my hippy food rather than all the other cooking threads.

So here goes, last night per request I made some arroz congri and tostones.

For the rice and beans, I chop up a green and red bell pepper, 2 onions and about 4-5 cloves of garlic. Cook up that in the pot before adding the rice and beans and sufficient water.  Season it up, and pretty much just leave it on the stove for a while.  I don't have any fresh pods yet so I seasoned my batch up with some smoked naga powder for good measure.  The tostones start by cooking them a bit on each side before pulling them from the pan.

After the tostones are cooked and pulled from the pan you gotta squish em dip em in cold water and throw em back in the pan, for the second round of frying. When you pull them out you can season them with whatever you want, I like to make a garlicky spicy sauce concoction to dip them in.  Also, make yourself a guava-lime rum drink for good measure.

Eventually, after a long long time (especially if you use brown rice), your arroz congri will be ready.

Happy vegetarian eating! (I also ate left overs this morning covered in cheese and a fried egg)

Let's see what you got....

AND can have super powers.  But don't screw up or the vegan police will take them away.

There is a form of kryptonite for vegans.

Its called BACON.

But we'll have none of that here.

Bacon and meat lovers also have a kryptonite.

Its called QUINOA.

Negative.

Fish is still considered a meat.

At least by most vegetarians.

A vegetarian that still eats seafood is called a Pescatarian.

A vegetarian that still eats dairy is an ovo-lacto vegetarian.
A strict vegetarian with no animal of any sort is a vegan.

Vegans are usually hippies also.

So...yes?

Give Rawk her due respect you stinkin' Amish Overlord meat lover.

And don't pretend you ain't cooked up a meatless meal.

I'm watchin' you Norton.

S' all good. I manage without quinoa. I eat chia instead. Currently sipping on a blueberry green apple kale smoothie, I put in a spoonful of chia and coconut oil for energy boosts, and today I tossed some grass fed protein powder in the mix. Gotta feed dem muscles. I'd post a pic but its not very pretty and it lacks capsaicin.

Uh oh.

What is "grass fed protein powder"?

Tell me thats not animal based.

Sounds like scientific 'speriments n' sheeit.

But stuff that hippy scientists came up with.

I'm on your team.

Just tryin' to understand.

Its whey protein, yes derived from cows, but organic grass fed sources so you're missing the antibiotics and steroids, and they aren't processed like body builder protein powders.  The key is finding a raw or cold pressed protein powder to get the health benefits from it.  I pretty much started using it not because I needed protein for muscles but really I read an article on glutathione, an antioxidant that has cancer fighting properties as well as a boat load of other immune system boosting goodies. Long story short the grass fed whey protein powder  it one of the top ways to maximize your glutathione levels because of the amino acids in the powder.  I try to consume a bit every other day at least.

Speaking of chia, I just started using it in smoothies and baking.  Its nutritional breakdown is pretty cool (12 grams of chia has 3 grams protein, 3 grams fat, and 5 grams fiber), and I like the way it gels up and has a slight sweetness and nuttiness when it hydrates.

Speaking of the thread, I love a good spicy marinara.

So let me get this right, its ok to eat meat of it is in powdered form? Hippie logic...

I believe that the premise of this thread was not to be vegan, just to talk about meatless spicy dishes.  The above protein powder was indeed meatless, as meat is generally thought of as animal muscle tissue.  I don't know of anyone who seriously calls "milk" meat.  Animal product, yes.

If this is all just teasing with a wink and a nod, then carry on.  If there is anybody seriously trying to argue about validity of posts . . . they need to step off.

Show me a proper meatless hot dog that I can microwave and I'm on board. Tb's soyrizo does not count. Truth be told, I do eat meatless meals. I did eat a salad yesterday. I did make a killer hot and sour soup with no meat the other day too.
