OCD 2017!!!

Well it's 2017. Finally! Last year was a success, as far as the ground plants were concerned. Virgin, clay ground. My Chinese got smacked by hail twice! No room for error with those. Out of 12 plants I got ONE BBG. First and only. That variety is cursed. Tried for the past 3 years and some sort of calimity happens.

This year I decided to try 21+ different varieties of the BBG. I have 9 Reaper crosses. 21 and counting other varieties. I built a hoophouse and some COB led's. Planning on getting them outside in March sometime. That might be a delusion, beings I'm in Colorado. We shall see. There is only a few varieties that I've grown before. The rest are all new. I'm planning on isolating most of them.

Just started some Lemon Drops for Throwdown Growdown. I will wait a couple weeks before I start the others. Everything needs to be in order before I germinate. No turning back at that point. I want two plants from most varieties. Plants need to be woody by ground day. That's the only way I have a chance at success with late maturity varieties. If I have extras, I'll give away to my friends of THP.

Thanks Sim. It's not as tidy as I would like it. Made a last minute decision to setup in the shed instead of the garage. The garage stays cold all day long. The shed will heat up and it has 3 windows and the door for ventilation. Need to move some stuff around in there.

From my observations here in Chuck's 2017 glog,
I'm reasonably certain that OCD is a beneficial
condition when it comes to growing chilies indoors
in Colorado!

Thanks a bunch Paul.

It's going well. I wanted to be at this stage a few weeks ago, but plants were not ready. I think they'll stretch as soon as they get some new root growth. I usually don't get them outside until the end of April, beginning of May. It's tiring cold here again. Dropping to 30's at night again for the next couple weeks. I'm not going to rush them outdoors. I'm comfortable that these new lights I built will be sufficient.

I have about 15 more to pot up that are in the aerogardens. I'll be done for awhile. I may start a couple Annuum's in the aerogarden and leave them for a couple months. Haven't decided. I really want to start at least Ricks Gochu.
 
Sounds like a good plan,Charles.  I'm a little surprised
you can get plants outside by end of April.  May 19th
is our 10% frost date here - so I don't plant out until
the middle of May, depending on the forecast.  
 
Good luck getting those babies in their rightful homes!
 
I small update. Only have one aerogarden going at the moment. Planted the others in soil.

Here is a pic of the Mutant Candlelight. A strange one for sure. Thanks to seeds provided from Jason (Jur-Z-Devil). Thanks Jason, if your out there watching.

The rest of the gang is stretching for the sky and no signs of transplant shock. I'll get them all on a nute schedule next week. I think there is enough goodies in the soil, I can probably wait longer.

Chuck - I love seeing your pepper garden(s) progression in pictures. You're going to have such a beautiful garden and a great harvest of peppers. Do you have space for any other vegetables? You say you weren't a gardener growing up, but you must have a green thumb somewhere in your ancestry. Keep up the great work!

I don't as of now. I thought about growing some celebrity tomatoes. I don't know much about tomatoes, but I know that one tasted great last year. I have some raised beds out front I want to move to the back. I was think of putting some in there. I have a really good nursery that sells lots of heirloom and hybrids. I think I only paid $3 for a six pack. Then I transplanted them into containers and put them under lights. Did well last year. The field mice and grasshoppers ate most of them. This year I'll put out traps early. Can't do anything about the grasshoppers.

Try the Sun Sugar.  Supposed to be one of the sweetest tomatos.  Then again, the grasshoppers might like those more... :rolleyes:

Sun Sugar. Noted Ben. LOL Your probably right. I need to encase them. I lost at least 50lbs last year. It was a shame. I started pulling fruit that wasn't ripe, just to enjoy something. I made up my mind. I'm planting tomatoes again. Nothing like garden fresh.

How have you been? Plants doing well?

I am hanging in there.  Plants are mostly doing well.  Will have to top some soon.  Overall, I am happy.  Also, I am enjoying your grow so far.  Looks to be an excellent year for you!

One has to grow the maters! The Celebrity is a great tom, but prone to "catface", I grew many varieties over the years, 35 years now. I now only grow Early Girl, they take the heat and the cool weather in stride and always produce nice baseball size, super tasty fruit. We swear by them.
