Devv-2018-Loving life in the dirt

Here we go again! ;)

This year will be a mix of in the dirt and container growing. Mostly in the dirt. I have some OW's going, 5 are cut back, 6 are pubes that still spend time outdoors as the weather allows. I have pH issues in the dirt, working on that, and hoping for some better results this season. One thing the wife and I decided is to NOT grow into the fall again. I was pulling plants the same weekend I started my seeds. I'm using 4 2 bulb T8's with 6,500K bulbs, and 1 4 bulb T5 with I believe 6,500K bulbs.

Got hooked on the Ziggies going to Eagle Pass to misbehave, $2 draft.. :P

I sure hope your new place is cooler than here! I really have a struggle getting spring pods; which is why I went in early this year.

First time I came home intoxicated to an irritated momma was a trip from Carrizo to Piedras Negras...just me and about 10 of my closest friends in my '76 GMC van. haha. My mom told me to go look at myself in the mirror...then asked me if I would let me date my daughter. I think I said something along the lines of...I'm not dating your daughter :drunk: Gross...dad pulled me out of bed by my feet a few hours later with a list of chores...push mowing about 3 acres in August in Carrizo, yuck. I still remember the scrambled eggs and ketchup that I kept down for one full lap before the drunk wore off and the hangover started to set in. Finally "accidentally" broke that freaking mower...only to be tasked with paining the ceilings in my sister's room...
Lesson...call home and then come home when you're READY to face that music!

As far as the heat...the heat index is probably close, we have a few 100+ days, but the temps rarely get above 95. Humidity is ridiculous though. I have a good yard that will offer some shade early and late in the day...so I'm hopeful that I can keep them setting pods until frost, Time will tell.

I've been using shade cloth down here for the last 5 years; really helps with the sun scalding issues with the fruit. I've never been able to get past the blossom setting issues though once the heat comes on.

Some how I skated on by without out any of such "lessons" as mentioned above when I was living at home. I think staying out later than Mom stayed up was a key factor; although a happy Mom she wasn't for me breaking curfew ever weekend. Perhaps I won by attrition?

Yeah...i thought she would be asleep, but she waited up. Lesson learned! I hear you on the heat and shade cloth makes a huge difference. Have you tried misting/fogger heads on a drip system late in the day? I think maybe on a timer with 15 minute cycles. They have a low flow rate and would lower the temps a ton in your dry climate. Maybe a small waterfall pump on a typical timer set to run less in the morning-midday then progressively more often/longer later in the day. That plus your shade cloth should help...maybe???

Somebody said there were pics here   :mope:

Wha' happened? PT go to your head?

JK, buddy, I know you are busy, but I need
an outdoor grow pic to keep me motivated  ;)

There was one time I got busted coming home late and she locked all the doors, even the screen doors. It was cold, snow on the ground, and the car was cold with a blown engine..I finally got in the house and the next morning she was there wanting to know how I got in. "Uht uh, not telling, just in case I need that route again".

I like that idea, but it may have to wait until next season. I'll be in retirement land and will have the time. I do have a rainbird timer for the wobblers, and an extra solinoid, now ya got me thinking. Thanks!

Mom's now 83, June 25th she'll be 84. She tells me now, she always heard us when we came up the stairs late. Then she could sleep cuz she knew we were home. I guess she knew she would be wasting her time trying to get teenagers home on time ;)

LOL Paul,

I have been busy, good stuff like crawling in the attic to work on the air handler, I found out I'm not quite as limber as I was even 3 years ago. The list goes on, tree trimming, driveway tire rotations. I could write an essay. I do know my knees are screaming and I go back to work tomorrow to rest ;)

I did just take some pics, I'm all in except for a few I will put in containers for isolation, like the one MoA and the JA Hab that came up from old seeds.

First a few of Tejas spring!

I now lease the land for cattle, so these aren't mine. But they sure are pretty to watch. The turkeys are getting vocal now too..

Got all the mater cages up and soon I'll be trimming the lower leaves so I can see any Rattle snakes that may sneak in. I have a few doing this weird leaf curl at the new growth, which I have never seen. I hope it's not a disease. Things are going to be tight as the season rolls in and they will make a huge hedge..lol

99% of the peppers are in the dirt, the 10 day forecast is good and I'm ahead of schedule for a change.

103.jpg

Sugar Rush Cream? I think that's it. Seeds from Andy.

104.jpg

105.jpg

Zapotec's

There ya go Paul, Purple PDNxBonda cross. ;)

Ancho

edit, wait I wasn't done. Don't know what key I hit...LOL well it's just a bell, but a pod!

That's it, time for a long hot shower!

My parents bought a police scanner to keep tabs on us. It worked once , my older brother got a ticket for squealing his tires in his GTO. Mom and dad met him at the door when he got home [emoji16]

If you ever saw the movie American Graffiti, that was me stuffing the tickets in the glove box  Got my license in 1974, first car was a 65 ChevyII I built with a bored out 283 (292) domed pistons, solid cam, headers, alum hi rise, holly carb, Munci close ratio, 456 gears. I was on the easy payment program at the local court house. Took Mom for a ride and dropped a gear and did a 7,500 rpm speed shift. She jumped on to the floor boards...I still remind her of that..LOL
