Thanks, mate!

If these guys fail, I don't know what else to do but to give up! I can barely even look at mite damaged plants anymore. I feel like just kickin' 'em or throwin' 'em against the wall or burnin' 'em or something!

I'm not expecting too much in the way of results initially as it is recommended several drops be made every couple of weeks. But if I am not seeing anything after another drop or two, I'll seriously have to reconsider growing until I can find a broad mite-free place somewhere. The bastages are REALLY doing my head in.

And of course, even if the Californicus are successful, then there's still the task of dealing with fruit fly later on in the season..... :banghead:

For now though I guess I just sit back and wait.......

Where did you buy them Gas?

Mezo.

Thought I'd put up a couple of pics of my new seedlings. I'm no expert at this but last year I did alright. Some of my plants from last season are still fruiting as I brought them under my alfresco area.

I tried the paper towel in ziplock bag method which was not that great. I used two different towels and one type had NO sprouts at all so I think there was something in it causing that. Then I saw someone using an esky and lamp so I put a heat mat into an esky and start the seeds in seed raising mix, so far that seems to be working well.

The seedlings are placed near the most well lit window in the house yet they are still growing tall so I made up some makeshift (dodgy) additional lighting which runs 24/7... Their growth sped up but still growing tall/skinny.

These are just the one's that have sprouted. I still have some in the esky, some ziplock sprouted seeds in soil in a warm location and a heap of seeds in ziplock bags.

Cheers Stone,

Ive just been checking out that site & another one in Aussie, seems im in need of lacewings for my problems (aphids & whitefly).

Mezo.

Stone the elongation of your seedlings is probably not just due to light issues but more then likely they need a nice gentle breeze over them to help them bush out and get nice thick stems.

Spend $80 on a propagation light

and get fat little seedlings like this one

No need to keep that light close to the seedlings.

Thanks guys. I'll visit Bunnings today for a fixture and then find a hydro shop somewhere. I've emailed Sylvania for a definite local retailer of Grolux tubes :)

Well I went to Bunnings and I couldn't find anything that didn't need to be wired professionally or anything I could just lay across my mini greenhouse frame.

Something like this, JungleRain? And still use the white tubes or buy some Grolux? They only seem to be $13 each or so.

[edit]
Nevermind. I can't be bothered stuffing around, I'm just going to Gardenworld to buy a pre-made propagation light.

I usually wire up myself....(not that hard) just open another one up and copy how it was done...
or you can pic up second hand ones at building disposal places or wreckers
the globes I get form aquariums are the same as grow lights but half the price..just ask for a fish tank globe/tube

Sorry, me again!

I went to the hydroponics store and the sales guy showed me all their different lighting options but anything useful to me was $100+ and I'm just not paying that much for ADDITIONAL lighting. So I went to the local aquarium store to purchase a couple of single tube T8 2ft light housings but they explained their light housing are not a standard length and none will fit the 2ft Sylvania tubes I wish to use. It's so much more difficult than it should be!

Anyway, I have a question... I was using daylight + crappy 14W compact cool white flouro + warm white LED strip light and ended up with leggy seedlings. Now I have daylight + 3200 lumen HID bulb dangling above the seedlings with no reflector + crappy 14W compact cool white flouro + pedestal fan all running 24/7.

I only wanted the Grolux because of how well it's grown Lavatung's seedlings... Do you think if I add my second 3200 lumen HID bulb the 6400 lumen worth of HID + daylight + fan will be enough to thicken the seedlings up? I only have 38 seedlings in a 50cm x 50cm area.

Dude my light came with 2 fluros, fixing and plug for $80. Screw it to your box, plug it into the wall. Easy bro!
