    shopping Shade cloth recommendations?

After working with inexpensive shade cloths that rip and tear like crazy in Texas storms, I am looking to invest in something durable to go into my garden over the long-term. Where do you guys source your shade cloth material from and what do you recommend that will last a long time? I'm looking...

pod-i.d. Need help identifying a "known" chili

I found the packets of seeds my MIL sent me back in 2022! The one to the right I planted originally (the Urdu written on the packet literally just says "Chili", so descriptive), while the hybrids I mostly left alone, so I have a buttload of seeds. I'm trying out the tannin scarification method...

pod-i.d. Need help identifying a "known" chili

Kashmiri mirch has a more unique flavor to regular chilies, which is why you can buy them separately in powdered form at the store. I would say your typical green chili is about 1-1.5 inches in length, pretty small usually. I asked some Pakistani gardeners about it and they said that a lot...

pod-i.d. Need help identifying a "known" chili

Lots of family nearby then! And I think this place is great for growing peppers, I've had a ton of success over the years. It's tomatoes I can't get to stay alive lol

pod-i.d. Need help identifying a "known" chili

It could be. My mother-in-law just calls it "karela mirch", but says she doesn't know the variety name itself. Apparently Pakistan has a lot of hybrid varieties so it may be impossible to know which one this is specifically. Also that's crazy you are just down the road from me brother!

pod-i.d. Need help identifying a "known" chili

Howdy guys, so I got a bit of a weird question. In the subcontinent, places like Pakistan and India, they use a chili that is just referred to as "green chili" or "chili". It's a small variety, looks a bit like a Thai chili. My wife is Pakistani and we use them a lot in cooking, and I even had...

container-growing Having a rough time growing this season

Howdy boys, Usually I don't have much of an issue with growing peppers, but this is my first year in a new apartment with a balcony that gets no direct sunlight. I rigged up my old 300W Mars Hydro LEDs which have worked wonders for me in the past, but I am just not getting good results so far...

How long do you normally harden off your chilies before putting them out?

    plant-care Problem moving plants outdoors.

Howdy folks, long time no see! I'm running into an issue with my outdoor transplants. I grew a bunch of peppers indoors, and decided to move some outside to get them in containers to get a jump on the nice weather we've been having. I slowly hardened them off in shade, then partial shade, then...

fermenting What do I do with this ferment?!

Howdy guys!   I harvested a buttload of peppers from our plants this year before the freeze, and decided to start fermenting them. What you see here is two half-gallon jars of peppers, but I have no earthly idea of what to do with the contents.   I've filled them with Pakistani Green Chili...

Ode to a awesome dude (GIP)

GIP was one of the few folks I grew close to on this board, and his love for the grow and the food was delightful. He was one of the first people to send me a dozen varieties of seeds to help start my journey, and I was so appreciative of his help. He was truly an inspiration to us all, and I...

I cannot get this to fruit!

Started from seed, the same seeds the in-ground plants are started from.     Not producing at all. :(

I cannot get this to fruit!

Here is our in-ground chili plant. The only nutrients it receives are 1) the compost it was buried with, and 2) the mild fish tank fertilizer that gets injected via the the drip system. These guys get pretty neglected but seem to out-perform.   I'm not sure what else I can do for the potted one...

I cannot get this to fruit!

Yo guys! I've got this super healthy-looking Pakistani green chili that just refuses to fruit at all. Its cousins that are in the ground at work are all putting out hundreds of chilies, but this one refuses to put out even one flower. I've tried heavy dosages of K and P, to no avail. I've tried...
