    Passed on but not verified yet: The US is something like #3 globally in gun-related deaths. Take away just the top 5 cities, though, and the US is now globally #4 from the bottom. Those 5 cities have the anti-American gun laws. Go figure...

    Grass Snake, lucky you. I had the hardest time finding it here. Best thing is to combine it with some high quality green manure, some rock dust, little bit of bone meal and gypsum and a touch of potash, and bam! Perfect organic soil. Just check the ph and adjust it with a touch of lime until it reaches close to 6 to 6.5 or so.

    You welcome, let me know if you try it. I made this mix out of necessity as our soil is too alkaline. I found out the hard way that its more difficult to acidify then to alkalize, and it takes longer. This is a clean mix with low toxic residues, and creates the best tasting peppers to date. Seems to repel bugs and fungus too.

    Also its full of nutrients, blueberry growers use it as the preferred medium, mixed with green manure. Mixed with a few other key ingredients and it becomes the perfect organic soil for peppers. I love it.

    A 5 inch layer of mulch does wonders in the Florida heat. Keep roots cool, and they can handle a lot more than you think.

    I noticed a big improvement by increasing my mulch content, using straw. Plants look unfazed by the heat and exposure to lots of sun. Consider we have been looking at 85 to 90 f temps, I would say thats pretty good.

    Straw is a great mulch choice for the heat. It keeps the soil cool by reflecting sunlight off it's white-ass self.
    I have leaf mold on now. When it starts getting hot, I'll top it off with 3-4" of straw.

    Good stuff it is. If fungus content gets too high or in suspect I go to my secret, or not so secret, pine bark fines. It works really well against fungus and adds nutrients as well. Hard for me to find at the moment in bulk.

    If you copy and paste the species into google images, you will see what I am talking about. I actually want to plant more of them. They are used as construction material as well, and you can get a pretty penny for the full size mature culms.

    I had Dendrocalamus Minor amoenus at the other home we just sold, and it does indeed get larger than the stated size, especially if planted in shade, as it will stretch to get the sunlight. Beautiful variety, but I was disappointed with how thin the walls are. I had on more than one occasion broken culms due to high winds. Mine grew almost 50+ feet tall and 3.5+ inch culms.
