The top layer always darkens on my ferments, but I've never had any growth on top, grey, white or otherwise.

I'm very close to ordering some lady bugs to get control of my aphids on my overwinters.  Nothing else has seemed to work.  Don't know how keen I am on letting them free in my basement though...

Looks like I'll be renting a plot in community grow center for this season since we're planning on moving. Happy that I can carry on with my growing plans! Maybe even a little room to add a few varieties!

Yup.  That way when the mash began bubbling and rising, the shoulder helped keep it down.

I've fermented in a growler.  Actually the tapered neck keeps the mash down.  Worked great.

Ok, forget the basil tea.  Any aphid relief from it was short lived.   Just got some pyrethrin and it seems to be doing the trick.
