    pics Mid-summer Chile Pepper Pics

Here are some pics I have been meaning to throw on here for a week or so. My friend who lives about an hour away usually grows 9-12 plants I have left over every spring in his small garden, and they always seem to do really well. From what I can tell, all he adds to the soil is coffee grinds and...

    Preparing Seeds

Any particular reason not to expose them to sunlight? I usually put them in a windowsill to dry for 4-6 days then bag 'em...

    Sport Peppers

I love those little peppers! Chicago style hotdogs are the best in the world IMHO...I wouldn't mind getting my mitts on some sport pepper seeds as well.

Hello From N Carolina To All Pepperheads

Welcome from Raleigh, NC! What part of the mountains are you from? I am pretty familiar with the Sylva / Waynesville / Asheville stretch...used to date a girl that was from that area. Good luck with your growing season this year, and I'm sure there will be plenty of seed sharing going on in a...

powder-flake Your Favorite Pepper Powder Variety

Gotta have my bhut powder. Ran out of last year's supply a few weeks ago and just waiting for some 2010 bhuts to ripen up. I'm also pretty stoked about making some yellow fatali powder this year as well...maybe mix it with the bhut powder to get the killer mouth burn / throat burn combo in one!

    origin of the species

It is my understanding that birds are unaffected by capsaicin, and that they were the primary means of seed dispersal over large areas before humans got into the mix with domesticated agriculture.

    Are any cayennes worth growing?

i can recommend the charleston hot cayenne, since it is my favorite non-superhot pepper. i don't usually eat too many peppers raw, but they work very well roasted in the oven.

    Adding stuff to Promix

For each 5 gallon bucket I mixed in 4 gallons of promix, 1/2 gallon of worm castings, and 1/2 gallon of extra perlite. After that, I just mixed in my nutrients (bone meal, kelp meal, greensand) and chucked my plants in. I think next year I am just going to use tomato tone for my nutrients and...

    Chile uses

As with most foods, a little bit of cooking/browning goes a long way. I'm not a huge fan of raw cayenne's myself, but under the broiler for a few minutes makes a world of difference...great on a quick pizza.

    chinense Super Bhut!!!

I got one of these in the mail earlier this month as well. Gimmicky marketing ploys aside, it really is a good price for the amount of seeds you get. At the very least he is not ripping people off, and I have been satisfied when ordering seeds, so I am hesitant to start poking fun.

    Fatalli Sprouted!!!

There is nothing to laugh about, my friend. We all start somewhere, and no matter what any chile pepper veteran says, they were all novices at some point. I am in my third season of growing and I still have plenty left to learn. I also think people on this board respond just as fondly to...

    5 gallon bucket question....

I get mine from Chik-fil-a for free. They get their pickle chips in green 5 gallon buckets, so if they are safe for pickles, they should be safe for my peppers. It doesn't hurt that they are green either...not an eyesore like the bright orange HD buckets.

    Leaves with rust color underneath?

I guess I should just chill out and let it take its course...actually, there is not much else I can do unless it's an easily identifiable nutritional deficiency. I am tempted to prune off all of my affected leaf growth, and hopefully it will sprout healthy vegetation back out.

    Leaves with rust color underneath?

Haven't sprayed anything on them except for a mild soap to take some aphids out...it was Seventh Generation Lemongrass w/ Clementine Zest dish soap to be exact. I saw the little red bugs you can barely see (I assume these were spider mites) once, but I took them all out in a day, and haven't...

    Leaves with rust color underneath?

I guess I spoke too soon when I posted my latest grow log pics the other day and thought they were healthy. I have some plants that are exhibiting some weird coloring on the underside of the leaves. Look here: Not to mention, the leaf curl on my choco habs has not improved, and they are...
