    Farmer's Market

Sorry, I didnt realise that, I assumed he would sell the plants, much easier for him! I think the principle remains the same though, as long as your plants end up "free" then you are winning! He will still have to take care of them, pick them and display them. And then sell them before they go...

    Farmer's Market

I totally agree with JDFan, sell at a price that covers your costs, ie it costs you lets say $10 to grow 10 plants, seed, compost, pots etc. You sell 5 plants to him at $2 each. That means your plants are free, and the $10 is yours to spend on new seed. Check out what he sells them for, and if...

So what level is your tolerance at?

I have never been able to taste the heat in a Jalapeño, I honestly thought people were kidding me! I enjoy a hot curry, and usually go for a Vindaloo or a Phall but only recently have I got into using chilli in my own cooking. In Mexico, I ate some grilled Habanero left on the buffet so...

vendor my experience with Chili Pepper Pete

My bad, I visited there today without checking here! First impressions, a really good (read GREAT!) selection of sauces, an easy on the eye shop assistant, who unfortunately did not have much product knowledge but was helpful. Don't dwell on that, not everybody can survive tasting the sauces you...

Common Store Bought Peppers, Grow or No?

Judging by what we get here, if they made them any milder you would have to call them cucumbers!

They are not the same though, they are different companies.

soil Is MG soil worth it?

How did this thread become a Monsanto issue? Monsanto do not make MG, Scotts do

soil Is MG soil worth it?

I know this is weird, but until 2 years ago I never knew about MG compost at all. I knew they did a fertiliser which I saw in the garden centre, but obviously the adverts ain't that prominent this side of the pond. It is only because of the internet I became aware of it, and now I see it all...

    Chilli trial

"From what I can see in that picture and what I read, it looks like those are mostly ornamental types. They're usually smaller, so they tend to do alright in smaller pots." Now you have confused me! I thought that ornamental simply meant it looked good, but you couldn't eat it, and these are...

    Chilli trial

A polytunnel is a polythene greenhouse. You can see one top right of the picture. I don't think they were trying to "sell" anything, or maybe just the concept that chillis can be grown in the UK Actually what I thought people would comment on is the way the plants are raised, from seed to a one...

    seeds Seeds from fresh chilis

Sadly I dont get volunteers in my garden, only conscripts! It gets so wet and cold over here, even the weeds can't survive...

    Hola from Spain

Hello and welcome. Our place is a few hours south of you. Just look up Ramil Bajo on google earth. I think we are getting enough Spanish members on here for a party!

Serranos and jalapenos from the grocery store

I think it's a case of educating the masses. Red means hot to most people, even a Jalapeno! Personally I would re-classify it as a sweet Pepper, but that might just be the examples we get in the UK. Going back to the original post. I have had a lot of success from saved seed from store bought...

    Chilli trial

I came across this recently, I was hoping for some comments. In a trial of 40 sweet and chilli pepper varieties conducted on Mr Fothergill’s Kentford, Suffolk, trial ground during the summer of 2011 plants growing outdoors generally performed better than those with polytunnel...

Your opinion on this Potting Mix

Last year I got some cheap compost, and it had a LOT of wood chips in it, I had to use some until I got something better and I had terrible results from it. This year, the rest of it has rotted down and looks ok, I expect to get better results now, although I haven't used it for anything...

    Mini Barrels any good?

That is genius! I have decided to try it with a dozen, the barrels are designed to lay on their side, so I am going to use a hole saw to cut two holes in the "up" side (one for watering/feeding) and some 1/2" holes in the "down" side which will let the roots grow into the soil when they are...

    Mini Barrels any good?

TBH I was thinking that myself, but at the same time I was thinking how cool they would look if I made a hole to plant into.

    Mini Barrels any good?

I have a load of 5 Litre plastic wine barrels left over from my last trip to France. I am thinking of cutting off the tops to use as pots. Are they going to be big enough for scotch bonnets, and Habaneros?

    Fungus Gnats

Just a thought, how about getting a sundew plant, no chemicals or mess and the plant makes its own bait! Plus it is so satisfying to see the bugs stuck to it.
