Good morning! Slept in this am. Time to check what's happening in the pepper world. Dead of winter and I'm thinking about hot peppers every day. Is this a compulsion?

    Best beer I ever had

Think it was that ice cold one I had after mowing the yard on a 90+ degree day.

    First Grind

+1 Very nice. Are those quart zip locks? That's a lot of peppers. As a "grinder" myself, i know how many peppers are needed to make even a small amount of powder. Inquiring minds want to know what peppers were used, especially the dark one on the left.

HNY to you and all!! Peace and happiness this new year (and hope the world doesn't end  ). +1 on AJ's sentiments, let's not do anything stupid out there. As for me, I'll probably be in dreamland well before midnight.

Bump. Morning! Setting here wth my coffee and finalizing my seed order list for today; papers, notes, and info. spread all over the table. This takes serious planning. I like the quiet of the early morning hours for clear thought and rational thinking; before the missus get's up and gives me...

    Miracle Gro

You might want talk to a local greenhouse/grower to see what they use. I get a mix from a local one that I use for both seed starting and as a seedling growing medium. Eliminates one repotting step for me. Yes to the bone meal. Use at planting time and one side dressing application 30 days...

seeds When are you starting your seeds?

Start chinese mid-January, remainder about one month latter. I could wait for the annums but get anxious to start growing things in the dead of winter. Target date for plant out is third week of May or latter dependent on weather (i.e. frost) conditions. Usually have about 20 flats of peppers...

    Miracle Gro

Agree with what Brandon said. Use MG fert. on peppers, tomatos, flowers. Never had a problem, have to be smart about it. I've tried the fancy, costly, esoteric ferts., did not notice a damn bit of difference. But then i'm growing in good soil with high organic matter. Usually stop ferting...

    Piri Piri / Malagueta?

Yes, I viewed the Piri Piri link you cited. The confusion arises because there is this (Malagueta PI 497984). http://www.thechileman.org/results.php?chile=1&find=malag&heat=Any&origin=Any&genus=Any&submit=Search Thus arises my initial question. If the two are essentially interchangeable (both...

    Piri Piri / Malagueta?

Are Piri Piri and Malagueta peppers the same or different species? I am getting conflicting information from my searches so far. If different, any seed source for the Piri Piri (have the Malagueta covered). I want to grow and supply the correct pepper for making piri piri sauce to a friend...

Good medium hot pepper you would recommend

Agree with ^ on fresno, like them better than jalapenos. Serranos are under appreciated on THP. They are my go to for salsa and drying for powder; also very prolific. Also consider a relatively hotter Numex like Big Jim. Can't go wrong with a Aji lemon/limon, nice citrus favor with moderate...
