What are some good books about growing chili peppers

I received this as a Christmas gift last year and really enjoyed it. There are a bunch of recipes in it too! Sorry about the sideways pic- i read something on here about fixing sideways iPhone pics but can't remember how at the moment.

off-topic Good Mornin' Thread - For those that get up really early and post

Good Morning THP! Today I'll be getting the my seeds started in the aerogarden. Got one of those cool 50 spot starter trays so hopefully no damage removing seedlings for transplanting this year. I decided to add Fataliis from Seed Savers Exchange into the mix so I can see how I do compared to...

Started the 2020 Carolina Reapers today. AeroGarden

Glad to know that works well- I just ordered one yesterday! I had a great start to my peppers last year until I damaged half of the plants getting them out of the cages.

    beer Being Crafty

That Lawson's Sip of Sunshine is absolutely awesome! I grab some every time I see it.   The sun will be setting soon so for me it's time to Enter Night. Metallica hooked up with Arrogant Brewing for this one. As a lifelong Metallica fan I had to try it! Decent tasting pilsner but it was more the...

    Storing sauce in the freezer?

Hi Phormic   :welcome: to THP I have stored some homemade sauces in the freezer for up to a year with good results. I usually make mini batches of just 2 or 3 bottles that keep fine in the fridge, but when I make a larger batch I will freeze some of it in half pint mason jars. If you're short on...

    Hot Pickles

Just did a few quarts this morning... I'm guilty of using Ball Dill pickle mix but I usually throw in some black peppercorns and go a little bit heavier on the vinegar.  Some slices for sandwiches and burgers, some regular spears, and one jar with extra garlic and dragon cayennes for me. Next...

    condiment Garden Salsa Dip

That looks delicious. I bet with the basil it would taste great mixed into some tomato sauce for a spicy marinara.

[Aug 20] What are you working on this week?

Roasting and peeling 10 lbs of hatch chile that got delivered yesterday, drying the last of my superhots left in the freezer (gotta make room), and making a few quarts of fridge pickles since my one cucumber vine is putting out more cukes than I know what to do with!

    Needed some sunshine...

Been a rainy weekend here in Little Rhody so I've been going through last year's freezer stash to make some room for this season. I had a few yellow peppers left so decided on a mini (read ONE lonely bottle) batch of sauce.    2  Yellow Fatalis 2 Yellow Ghost 1 White Fatali 2 medium Lemon Boy...

    hot-sauce Marie Sharp's?

I've always enjoyed the Belizean Heat, which is also a habanero sauce. I usually keep about half a dozen sauces to use and share with coworkers and this is one that I always have around. "Safe" for non-chileheads and hot enough for heat seekers to add a nice little kick to their lunch.

    Freeze or dry peppers?

+1 on this   Without doing this I would end up with tons of ice crystals in my freezer bags. I started doing this and have bags of peppers about a year old that still look as good as the day I put them in the freezer.   I also agree with Justaguy about dehydrated vs. frozen.   Experiment and...

    preservation pepper vinegar

Finally had some time to do this... Reaper, mixed superhots, and Jay's Peach Ghost Scorpion vinegars. I'm actually sitting here watching the peppers in the big jar slowly start sinking one by one... A Lava Lamp for chileheads perhaps?? :high:   The bottom photo was a mix of various roasted red...

    Picklese...You Have To Try This!!!

I made this a few weeks ago and liked it but seemed to have too much straight up vinegar bite. Tried it again using half regular and half apple cider vinegar. What a difference! (to me at least) This stuff is great. I will always be keeping a jar or 3 in my fridge. It's some decent heat with 2...

Chili leaves browning on the top side

I was having the same problem and was able to determine my plants are just suffering from some sunburn. New growth this week looks just fine. Vicious Vex the papery vs.crispy description was really helpful!   Thanks :)

How many people here are from/growing in New England?

Johnston Rhode Island here   First time growing superhots this year... Got a few plants from chileplants.com because I would have been way too late starting from seed. I'm going to plan things out much better next year! I only have a few plants because no one I know will even think about trying...

event Defcon SWEEPS the Wing Sauce at 2106 NYC Hot Sauce Expo, AGAIN!

Congratulations! My favorite wing sauce for years. One of those sauces that is really just great on anything, and a heat level available for everyone from non chileheads to those of us that want smoke coming out of our ears after eating!

    preservation pepper vinegar

Would frozen peppers work for this? I really need to make some room in my freezer! Other than the texture of the peppers I would imagine it to be no different than using fresh. I have more pepper powder/flakes than I need until this years' fresh peppers come in and am looking for some...
