Moved to Germany, but it's alright

So, I and the wife moved to Germany a few weeks ago so I could accept a very nice job offer. One of the hardest things was to give away all my pepper plants - I had bhut jolokia, tons of scotch bonnets, fatalli, etc. Today's my birthday, and my wife messaged me a little earlier saying she got...

Finally getting some peppers, but too late...

Hello all, it's been a while since I've posted! Life's been a whirlwind lately (more on that later). My scotch bonnets have been producing really well this year, but my bhut jolokia plants have only produced one (REALLY HOT!) pepper so far. That looks to be changing, as all 3 of my bhut...

    Ants!

I just found ants ALL over one of my Bhut Jolokia plants. Why would that be?? I hope I did the right thing in dousing them with pyrithium spray. I hit all my other plants that were close to it, just in case. Any ideas? No other pests are visible to the naked eye.. - Eric

    smoking Smoked wings?

Playing with an idea.. Has anyone slow-smoked chicken wings, then deep fried them (gotta have the crispy skin!), then sauced? I wonder if the smoke flavor would even be detectable under the coating of Defcon 1? :) Going to have a July 4 BBQ at my place, and thanks to The Creator, everyone...

seeds Transplant seedlings into 6" containers, or directly into 4gal?

Another question, oh pepper gurus! :) It's a great afternoon for transplanting seedlings here. The plants came in tiny little 2.5" square pots. I can either put them into 6" round pots and then later transplant into 4 gallon containers, or just put them directly into 4 gallon containers now...

    Gold Spike chile?

Have any of you ever grown or eaten (or even seen!) a Gold Spike chile? If so, what are your thoughts on it? Tasty? Big producer? My pepper seedlings arrived from ChilePlants last week, and one of the Bhut Jolokias had leaf curl and was dropping leaves, so I emailed them, and they sent a...

    Cayenne peppers for sauces?

I'm kicking around the idea of making some of my own cayenne sauces this year. What cayenne type peppers are good for this? Thicker flesh? Thinner flesh? The Cayenne Super II Hybrid at CCN looks good, so does the Island Hellfire cayenne.. Any suggestions?

    Making some interesting chili tonight..

    Cheap 5 gallon nursery pots?

It's about time to transplant my peppers, so I drove and called around today looking for cheap nursery-style 5 gallon pots. No one has them! I tried Home Depot and several nurseries / green houses, and can't find anything except those $7 granite-grey 5 gallon pots at HD. Where do you get...

    Cheap habs!

Hey all, I don't know if this is a pricing mistake or not, but I found orange habs at my local Super Target for $1.99 a pound! I cleaned out their meager supply of 1.5 pounds for only $3. If you have a Super Target near you, you may want to check to see if they have the habs marked down...

    Propogation heating mats?

I've noticed that heated propogation mats seem to be pretty expensive. Would there be any harm in using a heating pad from, say, a pharmacy, instead? (Assuming it was tested with a thermometer.) Or are they not meant to be left on 24/7? In other words, are there any good substitutions for...

Hello and happy new year from Dallas, TX!

Hey all, been a lurker for a while, finally decided to make an account and join in the fun. I recognize some of you from a few other places, and I see a lot of yet-unfamiliar names too. Happy New Year from Dallas! I've dabbled with growing peppers on and off most of my life, but last year...
