Your on the right track SoHot, some sugar in the beginning helps too. The trick is to get the good stuff growing fast so the bad stuff doesn't. I've been lucky and have yet to loose a batch ,At least not to mold or yeast. I have plenty of flavor profile fails.

  I never thought of doing that. When I use commercial potting soil I never do anything to it. But I might start doing this as an extra precaution.

I tried a digital ballast when they first came out. But they were very unreliable with some bulbs.  So i went back to magnetic. I think most the bulbs are now better with them. Good luck this year Drew.
