    Way too many peppers!!!!!

Pickle as many as you can. If you have larger milder varieties like Giant Marconi, Anaheim, Poblano, etc you can also stuff those and freeze them. 100 plants? I have trouble keeping up with the 24 I planted, I've got about 40 banana peppers I still have to pickle real soon. I have about 5...

    Today's Harvest

Thanks, I'm making pasta sauce from scratch using the tomatos and eggplants (not pictured), and working on pickling the banana peppers.

    What plant defeats you?

I'd just like to say that I was wrong. My zucchini and squash plants were on death's doorstep, then the vine borer just suddenly disappeared. Guess they finished reproducing for the season? Anyways, I've got 3 plants left that somehow draw enough water through their remaining stems to not only...

    pod Supposed to be Habanero?

Went outside today to find this: I'm guessing its not a Bhut since Bhuts ripen to a red color? I could've let it ripen more but it DID change color :P. Its more yellow in real life, though it looks like it would've ripen more to an orange and possibly red?

    What plant defeats you?

Squash. Vine borer destroys my plants every year, without fail. Only thing I can think of is to soak the roots/main stem in Sevin, but the plant might draw it into the fruit.

How to tell when your peppers are ripe.

Its actually the opposite:"Red peppers are ripened green peppers. As such, they contain more nutrients - a red pepper contains twice the Vitamin C of a green one, and ten times the Vitamin A. Read more: http://www.dailymail...l#ixzz20Nk6SpTx "Not the most credible of sources, but I remember...

Anyone pick a red jalap yet?

No, got my first couple of red serranos though. They produced peppers before all the other plants so I guess they had a headstart. Also picked my first ripe golden cayenne. Much, MUCH different flavor when ripe. The ribs up at the top of the pepper are pretty much impossible to eat, as hot or...

Looking for: hot sauce recipe made with orange crush soda

I'd make a sauce with the peppers, and add a little bit of orange crush or pureed oranges. Enough until you can smell it in the sauce through the peppers. Want to make sure the soda blends and cooks with the sauce. Oranges would probably taste better, not sure how orange crush would taste after...

fermenting Got a question about fermented hot sauce

Most hot sauce involves vinegar, I'm pretty sure vinegar and yeast don't go together. So yeah you'd have to make a pepper mash. Could possibly boil them in water for hours to soften/liquefy/sterilize them, then drop them in a fermenter with some yeast and see what happens. Couple weeks it'd...

    pod Supposed to be Cayenne

Looks like a Samuel Adams to me. Kudos on being able to grow that. Must be one hell of a pepper plant ;)

    Pee on your plants?

Over in China they collect "nightsoil" from all the homes in communities to be spread out in the fields. I use it as fertilizer. Urea is one of the forms of nitrogen that's very easy for plants to use. That, and urine contains trace minerals that also help. I'm lazy so sometimes I'll just piss...

    Mulching Pepper Plants

Back when I used to grow peppers without mulch, I'd have to water them every other day. They would droop that fast. With mulch, well, we just had a heat wave here and it didn't rain much for about a month. I still only had to water once a week. And they're a life-saver for weeds. I wouldn't...

HOW TO KEEP CATS AND DOGS OUT

Is there a way to make an electrified fence for cheap? Maybe something with a lot of volts, not many amps, so it just stuns and doesn't kill?

    pod Supposed to be Habanero?

Special growing conditions? It was 100*F+ for almost a week, that really seems to have helped their development. And I'd just like to say, I'm eating one of these right now. Just small slices, it goes a long way :D. Very delicious.

    Need a few ID's please

The first one looks like a large tabasco pepper, and yeah hungarian wax if it flips around. The second one is a cowhorn pepper. I know because I've got tons of those. I can't really tell with the third one. Are the leaves a little different color, almost kind of blue'ish? The serranos I'm...

    Peppers popping out...now what?

    # 3 I'd say is contested. Whenever I've picked peppers from plants, they end up producing a LOT more peppers. Whenever I've left them on, the plants stagnate and the most I get are riper, more colorful, hotter peppers. I don't think fruit photosynthesizes. And the peppers have to be maintained...

The worst thing thats happened to your plants

Never had much bad happen with peppers, they're pretty self-sufficient. Squash I try to grow always gets ruined by SVB though. Its always so bad, I don't see how the plants survive extinction out in the wild. They sprout, grow, grow a couple fruit then wilt and die. Usually for...

    pod Supposed to be Habanero?

So there's no real way to be sure, besides seeing what they look like when they're ripe? And yeah I'm sure they're not habaneros but I didn't think they were full bhut jolokias because they're not that long. Are they still a lot hotter than a normal habanero? I was hoping for 1,000,000 scoville.
