Interesting surprise at Kensington Market (Toronto)

Earlier today I was at Kensington Market looking for blue grapes since my usual source on the Danforth didn't have them. As I was browsing the fruit venders, I noticed two startling surprises in the fruit and veggie containers outside...   Chocolate Habaneros and Fatalii Peppers (mostly yellow...

review HeatAddicts Review of El Yucateco's Kutbil-Ik Habanero Sauce

You're very welcome! I guarantee you that you will not be disappointed. Both my ex-girlfriend and a friend of mine also felt that the Marin's "Salsa de Chile Habanero - Kut Estilo Maya" was superior to El Yucateco's "Kutbil-Ik." Please let me know what you think of it once you finally get to try...

review HeatAddicts Review of El Yucateco's Kutbil-Ik Habanero Sauce

El Yucateco Kutbil-Ik Habanero Sauce is absolutely delicious, however, there's an obscure sauce from Mexico that's of the same style (traditional Mayan hab sauce) but even BETTER. http://productosmari...lsas/index2.php http://www.yucatanpr...as_kutmarin.php El Yucateco's sauce is 10,000 SHU...

video 3 Guys Try Pure Capsaicin (Video)

One of five possible things: 1. Fake 2. Wasn't PURE extract 3. The endorphin effect was so profound that they were too numb to feel the intense pain 4. They have unusually high - nearly unrealistic - tolerance 5. They were drugged at the time and therefore less receptive to pain

    Taste the 4th Sense

I went to a lovely hot sauce store in Missisauga, Ontario earlier today. Known as Taste the 4th Sense, they boast hundreds of sauces of all styles and heat levels. What a wonderful place! It's even conveniently placed next to a comforting Italian bakery - yum! Anyway, I bought myself two sauces...

    storage Storing Dried Peppers

I first place them in zip-loc bags, and then place the bags in a big tupperware container, which I then place in the freezer. They'll last extra long while also being safe from meal moths. Since they are dehydrated, you can eat them right out of the freezer!

Well I did it, I ate a super hot.

Super hots are awesome. I love chomping on a whole ghost chili (bhut) on the side of a big meal. Although I once ate a whole ghost after eating nothing but a small sandwich, and even though I handled the mouth-throat pain very well, the stomach pain that proceeded later on was terrible. Felt...

    Use Gloves!

Last night I made a chutney with 5 scotch bonnets. My hands were burning the entire night, and even this morning I scratched my eye and my eyeball felt a little warm after. The worst was when I made a fresh sauce with 10 red habs and 8 ghost peppers. MY HANDS WERE BURNING FOR 2 DAYS...

    shopping Grocery store pepper labelling

Someone needs to stick a few Bhuts in a basket of Jalapenos. It'll teach the stores why labels matter.

My cousin is getting me a pod (with seeds) real soon..

He has this friend at work who is just as into hot peppers (and super hots) as I am. Apparently, this pod with seeds is a hybrid of Scotch Bonnet x 7-Pot. My cousin told me "7-Pot is 900k SHU". I'm excited, but I'm also curious on how this mixture might turn out. Scotch Bonnets have this lovely...

What was the last spicy meal you cooked?

A super complete dinner with a lovely kick! - shredded grilled chicken seasoned lightly with salted chili powder - canned white beans in tomato sauce (to which I added hefty amounts of habanero puree) - raisins - fresh salad (1 whole chocolate habanero finely minced, half a diced tomato...

    A hearty meal

I just harvested a well ripened Chocolate Habanero pod and am now enjoying it as part of a hearty meal! Angus beef sausage, mixed bean salad, boiled spinach, boiled broccoli, chocolate habanero, fresh parsley garnish, and a piece of crossant. What a complete meal! All it lacks is dairy to...

    This pepper just owned me..

I have Caribben Red Habaneros growing in my backyard. They are still green but fully grown. This pepper looks different (even though the Carib Reds DO have a small tail, the tails aren't as long and curvy as this one's). By the way, there were TWO of them. I ate one whole, but the one I took a...

    This pepper just owned me..

So I can eat habaneros and scotch bonnets whole, not a problem. I'll feel the warmth, a pleasant burn, but it's totally barable and enjoyable. I will NEVER get overwhelmed or even close to "ow this really hurts" with habaneros and scotch bonnets. Then I just ate one of these whole...

    chinense finally tried a habanero

Don't hide behind the curtains, man. Jalapenos are for little girls. Work your way up the heat ladder just like the rest of us - you'll learn to love it! I eat habaneros and scotch bonnets WHOLE. Can't do that with a ghost pepper, though. Way too much for me to eat without lots of food on the...
