2010 Grow Thread Begins

franzb69 I'm afraid this is my first year growing the 7 Primo so I can't tell you from experience what the difference is between it and a "regular" 7 Pod. There are several different 7 Pods. I'm sure that most of the differences in them are cosmetic, longer, shorter, fatter, thinner, more wrinkles etc. I don't doubt that there is some difference in heat too, the thing is they're so damn hot to begin with it's hard to tell.

okay! thanks.

looks like i'll be in the hunt for seeds of those too. lol.

Here's a Dorset Naga that you can almost hear growing. You can see several stems of leaves that I had to cut off sticking out. Hated to do it but it did improve their looks. Hopefully it improved their ability to recover too. Anyone know?

I am impressed of your growing skills but i always trim off way more of the lower veg than you do it seems from your recent pics. sometime it seems like when i get the plants looking aesthetically nice they seem to grow better might just be the water im drinkijng.

aND TO NOAH'S earlier post i have a brazillian starfish and lemon bhut that looks just as leggy but have been exposed to so me pretty damn extreme sun and temps latelyso i guess maybe sun might not be as intense as a upclose HID?

awesome plants Patrick again thanx for posting my brotha been munchin trinidasd congos lately mmm mmm mmm yeah

Nate I haven't trimmed anything other than broken leaves/branches. How do you trim your plants? Do you start at the bottom and work your way up? I been thinking about cutting off the leaves that are touching the dirt. Good idea?

You thinking I may need some heavy duty indoor lighting to get some pods off the inside plants? Thanks Nate, you too SS.

I get rid of any leaves that are touching the dirt. It definitely seems to help with bugs and also seems to improve growth on the top of the Plants.

I'm happy to say despite my bug problem that the buds are bursting and the peppers are popping!!

This Naga Morich pepper was a quarter of this size a week ago.

Crazy growth.

Another one of the pics I took on the 10th showed a very small Bhut Jolokia pepper surrounded by buds and flowers--no other peppers. Well here's a pic of the same small BJ pepper and you can see what's surrounding it now. Is this crazy or what?

Here's the B.J. in all her glory.

IMG_4906re.jpg

Not the biggest by any means but I'm hoping she's going to be a very heavy producer. Even the bugs can't stop my smile.

Strange looking bhut, especially where the stem meets the pod. Looks possibly like some frutescens traits are showing themselves.
Very cool!

POTAWIE, I have the same suspicion on that Bhut. Most of the B.J.'s I planted the seeds came from The CPI but there are a couple that came from last year's seeds and were not isolated. It's entirely possible that this is a cross of some sort. I'm fired up to see how it develops.

I'm a hoping SS. If it is a cross of some sort I'll be happy to share peppers and powders with any and all. The seeds I'll work on a bit myself before turning them loose. Fun fun fun!

I got to looking and I'm fairly certain that particular B.J. plant came from seeds purchased from The CPI. There are three of them in a row that look exactly alike and I only planted two from last year's seeds. Time will tell.

It's awesome to see how fast your growth is kicking in. There's something you're doing that the Naga seems to love!

I agree with the others, that Bhut is an interesting one. Can't wait to see it in another week. Keep it up!

Thanks Ballz.

The pods seem to have a thicker skin and they don't feel as hollow as the B.J.'s I've previously grown from CPI seed. Curiouser and curiouser.

I decided to see if I could slow down the vertical growth and get these indoor long legged beauties to start growing bushier and kicking out some buds. I picked up a bottle of Age Old Bloom fertilizer which has an NPK of 5-10-5 along with a bunch of other goodies in it. Also did some reading about lights and different color spectrum and found that I should use light in the "warmer" or red spectrum so I picked up a couple of 150W equivalent CFL's with a temp of 2700K.

It's been a little over a week and I have seen some changes. I haven't stopped the vertical growth, the B.J. is past 50", 127cm but I am seeing new growth coming from the nodes and the buds are beginning to pop. The yellow 7 Pod is leading the pack followed by the Barrackpore 7 Pod.

This is a shot of the yellow 7.

This is the Barrackpore 7.

I have some serious thoughts about the future of these babies.

impressive indoor plants. Nice size, and yeah they'll fill out very nicely in time. That yellow 7 is just taking off. I wish I had nice tall windows like that. They were built for peppers.

Are these plants you're going to trim back for over wintering then put outside next season or is the plan to just keep them growing indoors as long as possible?

Ballz I'm not quite sure what I want to do with them. Lots of options. The smart thing would probably be to cut them back to overwinter and then turn them loose outside next year. Then I realize the room they're in has vaulted ceilings and it's about 25ft/7.62 meters to the top. Ever see a 25ft tall pepper plant? I haven't and I'm wondering if its possible.

Time for some of Patricks Pepper Pod Porn Pics!! P's to the fifth! Sorry gang, been a long day already.

First up is the Peter Pepper, seeds courtesy of Petey Pepper.

Next are two pics of my most prolific Bhut Jolokia plant.

IMG_5017RE.jpg

Closer look. Bhut Jolokia or not? They sell a lot of seeds at the CPI so it's possible they're a cross or something totally different. Just have to wait and see.

This is a 7 Pod Barrackpore from seed I got here from peppermanbaha--I think. Sorry if I have that wrong.
