2024/2025, wiicek, BalcoJungle will rise again!

Oh, hello, hello! I've had plenty of pictures to choose the representative image from but this one is just beautiful, so, I couldn't say no to it! It is also a link to my previous glog! Still open, still posting my works!

I will do now a 2024/2025 season in a nutshell! So if you don't like living in the past and wanna go to the section when this one has started, go to the somewhat 4/5th of this post! That's a lot of scrolling!

Season 2023/2024 was so much fun! I've had so much work on the balcony and so much relaxing time it is really my favourite place on hearth right now. I mean, not now, now it's cold and there is still plenty to do and I am kinda running from it gracefully with a cold and on cold medication so very very... funny but from time to time that was the case with every love partner I've had to this day so, I think it may be love.

Every part of the journey was fun in a different way.

~Choosing seeds and them germinating! - everyone loves it, I am not different here. Giving life to new plants?! From tiny little thing to months of jars on shelves!? I think it is important to do a little bit for Earth and that may be a really good little bit. Like really juicy one. Like walking dogs and seeing some bottles on the road because people can be pricks. You're going to throw away some poop? Take the bottle. Or 3, because more people nearby are pricks. Throw them away with the poop. No problemo.
So, yes, seeds in a dirt, hooks, beautiful green or even purple leaves, so so so wonderful, this part is fun! Have to say, non of the ajis from the picture germinated or germinated but I lost them. Only freebie grew and still gives me berries! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜

1702242241056.jpg

~Caring for saplings inside under the lights in my room! Seeing them growing out of one pot and another! And another! And where the hell is May?! Three months from now! WTF!? - yeeees, this part can be crazy sometimes. Especially if you're bad at keeping the list small AND I KNOW ALL OF US ARE! It flies fast but May is always so so far away and plants are looking at you with anger. Love, I mean, love. Just make double pots at the end there. And buy some hydro solution. Pff. But sirously, there is half a year of greenery inside my room and it makes my heart sing. Rearranging the futniture so peppers have all the (window) sun in the world!? Huhu!

1707245581389.jpg

~First nice sun all around the house - I don't have outside yet to put them on the ground but chasig the sun inside was fun too, I remember. Plenty of work but it is kinda first big work of the season, so, still fun. don't have pictures tho...

~FIRST BALCONY TRIP. Hah. Sun and good temperatures at the balcony, I remember it was tempting me way too soon to put them there fulltime. Nights still were too cold for them to groow reasonably and I learned that inside is better for the roots and roots are the most important till jun even. Patience is what we grow here! Omg it was in MARCH!
20240307_133411.jpg
20240308_122324.jpg

~Spring was kinda unpleasand because I was constantly seeing them as too small and I really have to loose this part of my character because it doesn't matter, at the end they were way bigger than I imagined. This season I hope OWs will take the focus here.

20240612_154015.jpg

~Summer and the first pods - everything before that stopped existing because from now on, everything is constantly producing amazing colourful pods. I mean, there was a month where I was waiting for them to ripen, again, insant rewards are fun but that is not how it works here. But from the first red/yellow to the last (FATALI IS STILL RIPENING!) there is so much peppers to pick, my inner child is content.

~More pods! - after entering harvest season there is nothing else, only pods pods pods pods...

~Autumn and now - I don't wana talk about it! πŸ˜‚ But seriously, sauce making is amazing, I have some sugar rush ready to make a jelly out from (yes, I saw some of your posts and today I woke up with a jelly in mind). Preparing OWs, taking all the plants from dirt, cutting them and cleaning the space... It poses some new challenges to my weird brain but I am sure after I start it won't be so bad.

20241015_131438_HDR.jpg

And here you have! 2023/2024 season in a nutshell! I chose few pictures to show some parts of my journey but there were way more of them, of pods harvested and jars done.

What's the most fun in a weird way? Having one season dying but not dead, still lingering with some jars and greenery on the balcony and second being born with tiny leaves under the bulbs. Like, it works! Do you wanna all year and a little bit more time to spend on a passion!? Choose chillies! It will give you some time you din't know you had!
In a weird way? Because it is somewhere in the background of where the fun usually is πŸ˜‚ If you get me. It's so satisfying when you think about it but you don't really go and think about it all the time powering that satisfaction to do some good in a world. It doesn't last but it... is.

I AM SO SORRY. I THINK I MAY HAVE TEMPERATURE. πŸ˜‚:fireball::fire::flamethrower:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2nd of October
I have put some seeds to the ground officially starting the 2nd season! They are under 2k lumens, 4k kelvins light bulbs (3 of those) which did amazing job last year.
20241002_210534.jpg
So peacefull. At this time, the life is being called upon! Wizardry in progress! DNA activating! CREATION TAKING PLACE! But quietly and below the surface.
There is even THE LIST! But it is readable only to me, so, I will now create the sheet.
....
..
......
2025 LIST.jpg
Green ones are tomatoes.
Seeds for the jalapeno x ramiro experiment are inside the pepper which started to color few days ago, so, soon enough!
Big White is the sweet supermarket pepper, tribelli orange also. I wanted to have more sweet ones on the balcony but while browsing online shops I tend to focus on shapes and colors and then I wake up few days later with hot peppers seeds in my hands not knowing how what whyyyyy? And if I want something and tend to be stupid, Universe is giving me things anyway. πŸ˜‚ Sometimes.
~~~~~~~~~~

I don't know if I remember it correctly (wouldn't be the first time if not) and the day of sowing was 28th of September because I know that was a day I was writing the post about doing that. But maybe tomatoes are just so fast... because I have pictures done DAY AFTER the 2nd and first tomatoe sprouted. It was Venus!
I'm choosing the 2nd of October as THE DAY because I am more sure of this one (surer sounds wrong).

I wouldn't put them in the ground just yet but I wanted to have some inside anyway and the varieties are determinate, I wanted to test how they behave under the lights. I am not as scared they will make my early inside jungle into something wilder than I want. I like wild but undeterminate are too crazy for me, grow too fast and the lights soon enough would be overran.

20241003_163907.jpg

And then the next day!

20241004_152127.jpg

First peppers sprouted 6th of October, so 4 days after sowing.

20241006_220125.jpg

It was Orange Blob! The winner of this year's germination contest!

Link to picture from Fatali Seeds.

Soon after Melocoton and Tribelli. And then the rest joined in. They were fast. I remember most varieties bought online last year sprouted to and some even over the month time.

Today's picture.

20241015_175831.jpg

I have to say, lilies experiment failed. I mixed some lilllies, they both have put seed... thing one of which ripened and those were the seeds. Bu I think they were empty inside, so light, it would go far places on the windy day. I have never seen one so, I've put them in the ground anyway not expecting much. And they failed.

Ajio Jobito, and Manzano Yellow didn't sprout. Orange Blob sprouted, so there is a win, I don't need the second one. Aztek the tomatoe... I wanted to give one away to my dad but I always can clone the one that sprouted.

I really hope for Manzano to germninate but like I said at some point thinking about the last season - no fail is worth crying about because the wins take the spotligt. Should, ofc, and we decide how soon they will but the sure thing is - they always will with time.
Soon enough I will be sharing those wisdom so much, you will throw up rainbows at me.

~~~~~~~~~~
So, here we are! October 2024! Woah.
Last year I didn't really start the season any day, because I had some peppers already and was sowing some in different times, I think in November, maybe December and January... This time more order! Chaos is still here but there always will be with me as a grower! It adds sparks. Nah, I'm just crazy and lazy sometimes.
I like what I see from the start, so, this is going to be wonderful season!
Brought to you by Bear.
20241015_104728.jpg
He thinks he has cold also. But he's an actor. I should start paying him for his work, he is really good and I kinda feel like I'm stealing from him especially when he stops and pretends to piss when he sees some mildly big dogs far enough so they won't yet start pulling towards but close enough that he thinks he can buy some time to meet them. He also can yawn pretty loud if he wants attention and talks. So, perfect husky mastered.
Have a great day and night!
For now! πŸ˜‚
I used all my creative power. And it was fun!
I have to add: It is more for me than others anyway, I used to express myself a liiiitle bit somewhere on the internet in my childhood, this kinda gets my juices flowing similar way standing in a kitchen or on my balcony does. If someone smiles reading something, it's an additional win. Sharing is awesome but creating gives me way way WAY more satisfaction amd fun.
Like, really well, as you can see.
But... there are some of them, so tiny and so slow - you see that one there, I am sure, it's so tiny it stands out!
It's Jobito. Should I reseed him? KILL THIS ONE AND TRY TO HAVE ANOTHER KID?
Yea...
Second one, Blob from the last one in the same row, it didn't loose helmet head and I tried just now to see what is beneath and it didn't grow root and leaf died. This one is not even visible on the picture. So, one Blob it is.
I will put two neew seeds there and one for the Jobito. Will see what is going to happen.
And the Manzanos didn't germinate. Again. Second year. It is month, I will put another seeds there.
So, 27th of October 2024 they were put in the ground:
Jobito, four Manzanos and two Blobs!
Aaaaaand the Jalapeno x Ramiro mix which was obviously done before so many times, I am sure of that, was put in the ground today also!
20241027_114234.jpg
I did try to do this with 4 seeds like a week ago but they didn't germinate. Most of the seeds had black spots and I think that means they are bad. But few didn't.
What will be will be, it is just for fun. I did it by mistake and I wanna see what it did. Maybe some nice genes will awake...
I did put them under the ground, not left like on the picture.
So, now it is time to put get all of those beautiful, huuuuge saplings into bigger crate and I really don't know how will I do that with new seeds in this one.
Here it is, moderation bee - one of my spirit animals - having the time of her life.
I will think about something.
I just saw the thing and it will take so much more space than it is taking now, so, I don't know why am I being anxcious about now. Haaaaah.....
Have a beautiful day and night and the wildest dreams.
And look at that beautiful willow.
Manzanos, Jobito, Blobs and JR mixes are left in the old crate. It will be like that till everything sprout and behave good enough.
New sheet!
2025 LIST.jpg
I will sow 2 Azteks today, becouse only half sprouted.
We really liked jobito. I used to make a non-hot pepper pickles with them. They also look kind of cute, like little jobo fruits (Spondias mombin), as their name implies.
I think I bought the seeds because they looked like very prolific variety, I really enjoy looking at those trees full of fruits. If they are really tasty, that is wonderful news!
The magic of willow: How to make Willow Water
Some folks use willow water as a seed-soak, prior to planting.
That is actually really amazing to knoe, thank you! <3 I was looking for my rooti g hormone so so sooo many times and it alwats end up lost somewhere. And knowing that I can make my own just like that? :onfire: :cheers:
I think watering saplings with willow water would do magic ;o
What a nice set up for starting seeds.
At first...
I thought with all the peppers you have going, how will keep track of them all?
Now I, really appreciate all the documentation and sharing with us with thorough informative posts.
Will you be propagating the willow tree on The "BalcoJungle"
:metal:
I heard they are easy to take cuttings
Thank you
@wiicek good stuff! I'm looking forward to seeing how your season progresses!
Thank you soo much! <3 I really like seeing some movement here in this topic, it's making me smile <3
I was just looking for some hints about what did I sow where the last time and can't find anything written anywhere, haha. I might have fuced up BUT l sow most of them in the same places. So, I should kow where Manzanos are, one Jobito and one, maybe two Blobs.
The problem is....
20241027_192217-jpg.128602
20241104_174955.jpg
There are two wmpty spots between tiny Jobito and the dirt on the left (time of sowing) which are filled up on the right (today). WTF. I really don't remember how I did it and what is there. Logically they should be respectively Jobito and Blob. BUT WHO KNOWS WITH ME! I know that I[ve put one Jobito seed in the square where this tiny one was already growing and wrote 1 for the numbers I sow. But maybe I did put another one next to it. I really don't know, omg.
Good news is, something has sprouted. Maybe it is AZTEK THE TOMATOE and everything will be alright again xD //Edit. Yes, it is tomatoe!
Two another seeds are sproutng down and left from mysterious jobito-aztek baby. One is visible and it's tomatoe seed and second has tiny white hook just trying to go out of the ground. I'll update it in few days.
20241104_174935.jpg
Big boys, huhu... I had to turn off the left light so picture was nice and were seedlings AMAZING!
Few of them show light damage, because left bulb is too close, I have to adjust it a little.
I did already this year πŸ˜‚
But yes, I will use willow water for sure. I didn't yet tho, the roots seem to be more than alright, some coming out of their squares.
Good stuff, wiicek. Your sprouts are looking healthy and happy!
Thank you! <3
I noticed first leaves turning kinda yellow but it might have been because I've waited too long before first transplant and didn't fertilize them anyhow. But seeing pictures from 27th of October and from now back to back, wow, they grow so fast! Balcony will be ready in june, I am calling it!
I want to wait another two weeks minimum before second repotting but they seem to speed up, so, I'm just gonna observe them. My rule is - two times more above the ground than below and they are ready. Kinda. I have to be ready too... xD
They have all the space for themselves, so, I won't have to unbound any roots like the last time, hence (I used hence, so fancy!) I don't need to be afraid of fertilizing - I was kind scared that roots would grow too big last time and transplanting would mean I have to break some while taking them apart from the siblings. And I wanted to have them both alive, people want to grow them, uhuhhhuu....
//Edit. Omg, tomatoes are already hitting the 2:1 up:down ratio...
20241105_204622.jpg
20241105_225902.jpg
Few peppers are almost there also, it's hard to see tho, because of those handsome godly smelling tomatoes...
Look at those roots...
Venus. That's Venus.
Somehow this reminded me. Have to buy the smallest fan.
So, there's that!
Aaaaaand...
20241118_172756.jpg
It's tiiime!
They are week overdue, looking at them. I thought they stopped growing last time I showed you them but I was wrong. Stll, under the bright light the leaves look yellowish, tomatoes are even worse.
I gave them some seaweed but it might have worsen it.
Let's hope after repotting it's gonna be only better. Have to wait less between and just did double cup after the last transplant, that way they will grow triple the size! That was the case with one of my Cayennes last year and it was so satisfying to see the difference.
Transplanting, what an amazing moment after I force myself to do it, almost as good as seeing new seeds at mail! // no, I didn't buy new seeds, just remembering those sweet, seeet times...
I did one photo yesterday, my battery died just after I did it!
20241118_231309.jpg
I started at around 17 pm my time, then got distracted by some music, some texts with a friend, talking about Disney + account, watching some "This Is Us" on Disney +, preparing some food for evening... And then I started around 10 pm. πŸ™ƒ
But hey, I did it! :cheers:
There were some peppers and few tomatoes with roots in the neighbour's place. I can't think of any other reason than love.
20241119_184449.jpg
20241119_184515.jpg
I sprayed them with some natural insecticide from substral.
Aphids were there two weeks ago, I sprayed them and now it looked alright but I want to be more careful than last year, I was sloppy with it, doing mostly manual killing, sprayed only few times, not as often as I should and with different things. They were coming back time after time. Now it looks better already, maybe substral is just better than combo bio (?), nim oil and baking soda I was using last year...
Will do now better photo, to show how big they are... // I will post some photos and new chart (!) tomorrow, because my internet today makes me wanna die and I like the will to live more. And I have to go to sleep! Have a great night or day or whatever you have now, you beautiful soul! <3
I wil write the full list now, because I just noticed everything is on the pictures and there is nothing put to words. It is hell if you wanna copy and paste, my bad, I'm sorry :deadhorse:
  • Thunder Mountain Longhorn (2)
  • Bulgarian Carrot (3)
  • Sugar Rush Stripey (2)
  • Sugar Rush Peach (2)
  • Black Molten
And some others but I don't really know what will I have on my balcony and what will I give away.
Numbers in brackets are also not saying anything about the amountsI will have on the balcony. Some of them I will give to my father, some to my friends. But I will have at least one from each variety. Except Peach and Stripey, I want more of them! That's for now. I will maybe clone something somewhere around march or april to fill the balcony if it will necessary.
Our internet is still not in a great spot for now, there is some kind of malfunction around the country. Funny times.
I did sow another Orange Blob and Jobito, because second seeding didn't give great results.... It's growing like the first one, slowly, but because the older one got somehow damaged, it is already more advanced. πŸ˜‚
20241119_222914.jpg
It's my nursery area, because I didn't know how to save space without doing that. And today I have just sow two seeds into my tiny seed pots from that box I bought few weeks ago πŸ˜‚
