A winter day in Queensland

That is good news, hopefully your summer proves to be warmer than ours here in the mid-west USA. Worst growing weather that I can remember. Great summer outdoor weather though.

The Weather Bureau recorded 35.3C in Brisbane at 4.05pm while Archerfield on the city's southside was 34.5 after topping at 35.3C at 4pm.

Was certainly a warm day for any season.

they are doing ok the ones under plastic are starting to go a bit they were stunted and root bound but putting on new leaves, should see some decent growth in the next weeks. My biggest propblem at the moment is a rougue cockatoo who keeps pulling the seedlings out, I'm trying to bird net down but its a BIG area.

yeah the thought of this summer is making me nervous....I'm thinking about getting gear ready to set up a light sun shade infront of the chillis to protect them from the hottest part of the day.....Chillis love heat but they don't like much over 38 degrees C on a regular basis....:(

Got that right mate. I had TONS of flower drop last season and it pi$$ed me off to no end. You get all these lovely flowers then *pooof* overnight the little gems fall off.

I am thinking more along the lines of a mister setup, because i don't pay for my wasser!

Hey Mick, what about stringing some fishing line about 300mm above the plants, hanging some ribbon off it? Might work unless the bugger is walking in..

Nova- a misting system sounds cool, no pun intended. I remember years in Arizona where this was a welcome relief, but these systems were most affective when relative humidity was under 30 percent. Anything over this and you risk drenching the place in water since it works on evaporation rate. A sun shade would be less of a hassle to construct / maintain, I would assume, and would lessen the intensity of solar radiation (heat). Plus, the $$$ factor into the equation... just a thought.
