Ok, last night I ate a Dorset Naga pod, whole and raw. And WOW, that is one IMPRESSIVE burn.
It took a little while to kick-in, and again I was surprised at the initial fruity taste as I cheerfully chewed away (until there was nothing left to chew - did it properly). It caught up with me pretty fast though, and the adrenaline rush hit as the fire spread across my whole tongue with an intensity like nothing I've experienced before.
It REALLY gets the back of the throat, making it kinda tough to breathe and speak for a while there.
Neil, you have balls of steel: I have no idea how you managed to go so long without drinking or eating anything to dull the edge. I think I lasted about 3-4 minutes before diving for the milk and yoghurt.
It was about 30 mins before my mouth was back to normal, but by that time my stomach was struggling - bloated and searing. It turns out that a couple of handfuls of baguette are not enough to fulfil Neil's "don't do it on an empty stomach" advice. I recommend eating a reasonable meal a while beforehand. As soon as I ate something substantial (about 45 mins after) the relief was immediate, then enabling me to go out drinking and playing pool for the rest of the night as originally planned.
I did try to film it, but my camera won't let me extract the file for some reason. I'll see if I can recover it tonight.
I'm not sure that I'll be doing it again any time soon, but I'm glad I tried it and know the drill. These things will for sure be going into my meals quite regularly from now on!
Cheers all,
FS
