Hi Moy,

Noticed your dragon fruit. You might want to consider building a separate trellis for it like below.

Once the heat and rain arrives that plant will take off and grow fast vertically. Just afraid your neighbor will be the one enjoying the fruit when time comes :)

Thanks mate, I am planning on guiding the dragon fruit along the fence. I've seen it done before and it seems to work well. My neighbour and I have heaps of plants that grow over each others fence and share our haverests anyway...

Nice garden you have planned. What's the plant in the barrel in the second pic of post #32?

Mate the plant in the barrel is a dwarf orange tree. I also have dwarf lemon, lime, mandarin, avocado and mango trees in barrels as well.....:D

Alright MB. You've got me all excited looking at that dirt just waiting to have plants in it. Watching that little green hook pop out of the soil, the first leaves....shit I'm going to have to plant some kind of seeds now!!

Best of luck to you man, I think you're going to have a great year.:)

Thanks Pat, I'm really looking forward to this season as well

I put all my chilli seedlings into 3 inch pots tonight and set up a light in my cupboard as I don't really have anywhere else to put them at the moment......This allow me more room in my grow box for some more chillis, herbs and beans.....

This is a full cupboard view......the level that now has the chillis had towels in it.......Who needs towels

What does a single man need an iron for?
What brand dryer is that? I'll be looking for one that size before next summer. The shitty Sunbeam I have is rubbish.

What, no bananas? :)

Nice tropical assortment. With your climate isn't it possible to grow the full sized versions or do you get killing frost in the winter?

The iron was a xmas present and a hint from my mother...
I can't remember the brand of the dehydrator but I'll let you know when I get home from work....

I don't grow the full sized versions for 2 reasons. Firstly as you said, I get some big frosts at the end of winter and secondly My soil in the yard is total crap. 6 inches under the ground is land fill cause I live on an old creek that was built over in the 60's. So nothing grows in the yard and thats why I need to have all my gardens as raised beds!!! Plus dwarf trees are easier to maintain.....

I was so jealous of you Aussies picking ripe peppers while I was playing in the dirt last January. World keeps turning. Best of luck to all of you.

You get to play in the dirt in January?!?! Hell, I can't even see it then! As Napoleon Dynamite says- 'Luuucky.'

I get to play in the dirt all year round but there is about 2 months of the year that we get frost so I have to protect the plants from that....

Getting there nice like Pip. I am kinda jealous of the size of your seedlings :)

About the Dragon Fruit. You do know that it only gets pollinated by some African or Amazonian moth and that the flowers only open up for one night then die, right? You will be damn lucky to get it pollinated i reckon!

You are right on most counts but It does pollinate well here in OZ. I've done a fair bit or research on it before I forked out the cash to buy it. Worse case is I hand pollinate it.

I'm pretty sure chilliman gets heaps of fruit from his and he doesn't touch it!!!!!

If all else fails, at least it will look good and cover the fence line.

Nah chilliman as far as i know hasn't had any fruit from his. You should see the size of the M/F! If he managed to pollinate the whole deal i would say that he would be around $20,000 richer!!

How much did you fork out for it?

He could always wear a pink tutu and dance through the garden waving a pair of feather dusters.

Anyway.........back to my growing...:P

In my first round of seed planting I have a few plants that didn't work so I have planted some more:

Purple Jalapenos
Chocolate Bhuts (I'm pretty sure these ended up to deep in the soil the first time)
Douglah (very upset these didn't work)

And seeing I had a few peat pellets left, I thought I'd play with the bih Jolokia this season as well.

I was given some scotch bonnet seeds as well but they didn't look to healthy when I got them and they didn't work out....:( was a little dissapointed as I haven't grown scotch bonnets yet....

I also planted 6 green beans, 5 white beans and 5 multi coloured dwarf beans. I have room for 16 bean vines so that's where the number came from....

Tomorrow night will see me planting a heaps of herb seeds but i'm bloody running out of room again so I might have to wait for some of the tomatoes to be big enough to move to pots.....

Need to explain this better, the dirt around here is frozen solid in January, I meant the dirt I use to fill the cups to put the seeds in. The stuff I buy at the local home store. Sorry about that.

Rock on MB, sorry for the short pause.

Well i'm so bloody excited i could just sh!t......

Nova gave me 3 Douglah seeds that he got from Bentalphanerd and the first 2 didn't work so I put the third one in a peat pellet a week ago and when I got up this morning I noticed a little green hook starting to come up :woohoo:

I will take a few pics of the chillis when I get home from work as they are a few weeks old now. I'll also put up my beans and tomatoes...:)

Hey Moyboy, are yer still looking for some scotch bonnets, I got a few to spare if you're lookin, I may just have a couple of Doughlahs for ya too ;)
