Australia (Japanese Air Raids)

Just watched the movie Australia, which didn't get great reviews, however I thought it was pretty good. I didn't know that the Japanese air raided Darwin. I thought the movie was about to end when they got the cattle to the port, hell, there was another hour. Kidman is definitely hot.

Darwin is not the only place they shelled. My grandfather worked at BHP steelworks in Newcastle during the war and a shell from a midget sub hit the steelworks, luckily whoever made the round screwed up because it didn't blow!

If it wasn't for our grandparents Australia would be under Japanese rule:shocked:.

There also definately needs to be more recognition for their efforts during the war.
My grandfather was a pilot and I am so grateful for all the efforts that the troops did to keep this place the was it is(sorry for the rant).

Micca

That's ok micca rant away! Something as important as this should never be forgotten.

The yanks did a fine job of smashing the japs in the Pacific, if it weren't for them the japs WOULD have got here, thier forces were not far away at all.

Oh and Dick i cannot agree about Kidman, she looks like a walking corpse!

Good on the USA for stopping the JAP's but I think it was more Australian soliders struggle in New Guinea (spelling???) that stopped the japs from getting to Australia!!!! which was made possible by the US really hammering them in the pacific!!

My grandfather was in New Guinea........My other grandfather was at Fort Scratley in Newcastle.......

And Nova is right, they bombed the steel works in Newy but the thing never went bang!!!

A jap Sub was even in sydney habour and was fired upon by Australian land artillary

Yeah my Pop was in New Guinea servicing the electrical systems on planes, he often used to tell me a story about when they used to run out of food the would do a fly by and bomb the water for fish to eat. The Americans put a stop to this though as they were worried that the explosions would "knock the island off it's pinnacle". Don't know how true the story was but it was funny!

I remember BA BA Black Sheep where there were Australian troops helping out in the Solomon Islands, but never new about the attacks on the Aussie mainland. I'm reading up on it now. I did hear, recently about the displaced children.

She was looking a little pasty white in this flick, but definitely a hottie over all.
