I know everyone's not on facebook but it's amazing what you can find over there. A person ate a " Trinidad Scorpion Barrackpore" I'm aware that when the seeds to the 7 pot Barrackpore were shared there was NO mention of a trinidad scorpion. Of course the seeds and possibly plants are available from refining fire chiles..should be no surprise to anyone. Creative naming at work again!

I'm swimming in Barrackpore and yes they're very hot, but not as hot as my Infinities and Butch Ts!!!
I would love to see him try one of those, as soon as the heat kicks in he probably be cutting out to cool it down with milk!!

Yes Nova!!! No mention of it being a trinidad scorpion barrackpore BUT that's what the title says and the response today indicated it could be a trinidad scorpion...here we go again. Not meaning to suggest anything except that some people feel that if a pepper comes from a particular area it has a claim to that name so if I was growing a 7 pot in Minnesota I could call it a Minnesota 7 pot....I don't think that is proper even if this area was known for growing 7 pots. You can't change the name of a pepper just because someone down the road grows the same pepper and wants to mislabel it. Sorry I grow a lot of hot peppers, a 7 pot grown in Minnesota is still a 7 pot. It does not automatically become a Minnesota 7 pot. Ok end of rant, I just couldn't believe I saw that yesterday, especially since the person passing them out for testing has been on both THP and Gardenweb, he should know better IMO.
i hear ya on the whole naming a pepper based on where u found it.... that's kinda what i did when i 'discovered' the Barrackpore 7 pot unfortunately...... it was a pimply little thing i saw growing in my friend's yard who lives in barrackpore.... he said the pepper was a result of crosses..... the plant was almost dying and had very small peppers.... some seeds were salvaged... got a few pods from the first plant, posted it here.... many other more experienced pepper growers said they didn't come across any 7's that looked like that.... soooooo pepper from barrackpore.... Barrackpore 7.... lol
It's better than it being called "CAP 123456789" in my opinion. Once a name has been taken for a variety (i.e. 7-POT BARRACKPORE) then i think the name should stay with it forever and be crossed right off the "list" of names available. JMO

I think a lot of the stuff about naming strains of any variety/strain/cross of pepper is getting way out of hand these days.
Especially with superhots.
To me a lot of them are not immune to pod or plant variations,even from pure seed.
There are tons of people trading non isolated seeds that might grow pods that look like the original but aren't pure or stable.
Like anything else,commercial Pepper growers could care less about seeds.
We buy a pod from a market in B.F. Egypt and it happens to grow a similar plant,
all of a sudden it becomes a "30 pot Scorpion butt hurt pepper".
Then the snake oil sellers get into it and start making up names for stuff some guy got from F2 seeds from seeds they got from market pepper growouts or whatever.
Everyone is selling seeds from stuff thats been only grown out from pure seeds (maybe) for a couple generations if that long.
So far,I can only remember the Butch T Scorpion Jonah and 7 pot Jonah as being around long enough to be considered a possible stable strain-if you got the right seeds from your source that were isolated...
Butch says he didn't even isolate his plants at the time he got the seeds.Mid 2000 I think it was.
Wanna buy some Floridabeer/Floridapepper Chinese licorice seeds from China?

Well I'm a "pepper nerd" now but it's no longer listed as trindad scorpion Barrackpore!! Now it's a trindidad Barrackpore 7 pot. He may think I'm a pain but if you are going to do videos eating peppers at least tell the world what you are eating. BTW the pepper for the video was supplied ( with the changed name) by Jim Duffy of refining fire chilies.
They changed the name eh? Good to know they're willing to listen. I sent them an email with an explanation of where the original 7 Pot Barrackpore seed came from. Thank you trinicoolieboy.

glad to hear patrick...... i haven't been on here for quite a while.... glad to see the barrackpore 7 is a regular in most pple's gardens..... very pleased indeed.... i think i finally got back some time on my hands now to get back doin what i love....
