beer Being Crafty

This is a seriously amazing sour. I've had it before years ago, and I forgot how ridiculously tasty it is.

"This is an aged Belgian red ale, which is ripened quietly in oak barrels for two years. It has an extremely pungent aroma of rich grapey fruit, with acidic notes, very much like a slightly sour red wine or possibly a gueuze. In the mouth it is slightly sweet, extremely acidic and fruity, with grapes and even cherries discernible, and very lively. Despite the sweetness it is not at all cloying, even thin, with little or no trace of malt. Finish is sharp and fruity."

That one is excellent.

I have a duchesse de bourgogne I am looking forward to cracking into this weekend.

this brewery is fairly new, about a year and a half ago they opened the tap room. their offerings by the can so far have been only their year around brews. this one is new and it is fantastic.

from their website.

As an Oak Series offering, Charter Oak’s ultra-limited release is a very well rounded and perfectly balanced, yet robust, Russian Imperial Stout. This winter release was brewed to an opaque, midnight black shade with an abundance of specialty malted and roasted barley and plenty of East Kent Golding and Northern Brewer hops. Lights Out Stout enjoys a complex taste profile of coffee, toffee and a mild chocolate backend and at 9.1% ABV it’s a real sipper on a chilly New England winter evening. Look for the bourbon barrel release soon.
