Capsidadburn 2011 Grow

Well its that time of the year when there is excitement each day looking for new hooks coming up. I got the majority of my chinense sowed Jan. 16 thru the 19th. There are a few stubborn varieties but after nine days the majority have
arrived. Much better results than last year.

Here are the list of chinense and a couple of pics. My overwinter list will follow soon.

Thanks Everybody. DODcat, I don't think I'm anywhere near AJ's status, but thanks! He certainly does inspire a lot of us. Just have to keep on trying to learn. I do look forward to meeting AJ this weekend at ZestFest. I leave tomorrow morning. Very exciting!

Very cold (18 F)here this morning and tomorrow for central Texas! I may have lost my papaya's. I have a photo of a Manzano that finally ripened which is supposed to be orange. I wanted to know if it looks yellow to anyone. I grew red yellow and orange last year. They are overwintering now. Only one produced pods. Here's the pic. Lighting could be better in the shot.
Thanks Mike

It looks orange to me.

I grew a yellow rocoto and orange manzano last season. Here are two pictures for comparison.

Sorry, this orange one wasn't completely ripe, but I don't have any other pics of it.

Thanks Josh for the color conformation. My father use to ask me what color the street light was as we were about to drive thru it. I'm not colorblind as he was but the sometimes the color could go either way.

Well I have transplanted somewhere between 90 and 100 plants so far. I hope to do another couple dozen tonight after work.

Here are a couple of pics.

It was 70 degrees in the afternoon for superbowl Sunday so gave some seedlings a taste.

Good Day
Mike

Well the first wave of seedling transplants are in the grow box. I am now waiting on the next germination. I had some aphid problems in my germination/ grow nook area. It was a mistake to put the converted soil to hydro Pimento do cheiro in this area. I think I imported and introduced the aphids to the dream fields mother lode. All is under control now. There are still aphids here and there but I keep after them. Here is a pic. Good day to all! Mike

Here is a March update. Did some hardening off today. I am germinating the last batch of bacatuum's and annuum's and a few tomato's. I've been building a couple of raised beds for my overwintered select plants. I should be through with one tomorrow so I'll put up a pic of it.

Got a few last minute varieties from Beth @ Peppermainia. I should be done germinating in a week or so. My overwintered plants have been outside since mid February. The majority of my chinenses have been outside for two or three weeks. I've been juggling repotting the overwinters and potting up the new to one gallons and trying to get my yard under control. I will build one more,(3rd) raised bed in a week or two.

Good season to all, Mike

Here's a couple of pics of the progress.

Overview of the progress

Season is progressing nicely for you in the backyard all the plants look great Mike. All the hard work planting will reward you with huge harvest in only a few short months. Happy healthy plants.

As promised here is the raised bed pic...

RaisedbedyoungMarchstarts2001.jpg

Hey Mike, can ya tell me a little more about your raised bed? Looks really nice. How big is it - 4x8? Did you line it with something? What did you fill it with? What are the PVC "spouts" around the bed for? What about the pipe with the valve - is that water? Curious minds want to know!

Plants are looking great by the way. Looks like a great season shaping up for ya.
