Capsidadburn 2014

Here we go again.  Seems like it was only yesterday.  I've recieved a lot of pods and seeds from great folks here.  THP and those folks are awesome!   I'll be growing most all of them as well as an order I just placed yesterday with Semillas.

I will seriously have to alter my logistics and layout to grow everything and keep it as asthetic but affordable as possible.  Big problems;  I need to trim my front yard trees to get more morning and mid day sun in the back.  I really need to haul in new soil.  Hello wheelbarrow and backpain.  My city is currently in a stage 2 drought restrictions (once a week watering).  I usually water with drip irrigation everyother day until summer forces me to each day.  Barrel collection (which I've been tinkering with for a while) will have to happen.

Here is my list in no particular order.  Seeds and or Fresh pods from; Pepperlover/ Judy, GAGrowhead/Jason, Windchicken/Gary, Sawyer/John, Spicegeist/Charles  Meatfreak/ Stefan, PIC 1/ Greg  Thanks to all!

How do you end up isolating? I was gonna put fabric bags over buds before they flower and until the pod sets.
Adam, I have always used the organza bags on blooms. Different sizes. 5 to 8 inch maybe. For me this seems to work well on small pod varieties, but works best in cooler, late season temps. During the summer there seems to be to much heat build up in the bag around chinense varieties. Bloom drop inside the bag is the usual result. Bagging the whole branch or plant would be more successful. It's my plan to try to "section off" groups of plants with tulle, and then larger branch bags loosely placed. I'm not sure exactly what that structure will look like yet. PVC, shade cloth, and tulle, zip ties.

Best of luck!

Looking good Mike!
Thank you John!

Clearing out the grow box, ready to harden off.

And I see a bunch more in the background already soaking up the sun. The 10 day looks great! I think we're done with the cold weather here buddy! May get some more wind, but you know ;)

I've been out of town for a couple days.  I put out some hardening off plants for their first time out while I was gone.  The forecoast was mostly cloudy so I gambled.  They looked fine when I got back.  I couldn't pass up the progress they would get.  And no I do not know where I will put them all. Fun though!

Both my kids were in a regional Science olympiad competition at Texas A & M in San Antonio.  My son took 1st place in his "Scrambler" event and a 3rd place in another event.  His "C" division, (High School) took 2nd place overall.  Not sure how many teams competed.  May or may not go on to the State level competition's in May at College Station.

My daughter took a 3rd place medal in her first Regional competition for Wildflowers.  The "B" division, (Middle School) took 1st  place overall and will advance to the state competition.

Here's a few pics and I will try  to post some links to some Scrambler practice runs at my Wife's work after hours which has smoother floors than my work.

I have two more video links;  Will wait for bump.

Thanks!

Thanks Jason and Adam!

Pansy Close up

Still filling up the raised bed.  About 3/4's full.  I can work on it tomorrow finally.

That's awesome. Congrats to your son and daughter. Your plants look great.
Thanks OCD!

I forgot to mention that the Scrambler distance at competition was 10.7 meters and my son's vehicle made the trip in 3.42 seconds.  It stopped around 6 inches short of the barrier wall and no broken egg.

Well my raised bed is near completion.  Here is a list of plants in it with room for one more plant.

Datil
7 Pot Jonah
Bhut Orange Copenhagen
Elysium Oxide Bonnet
Ministry of Agriculture S. B.
Jay's Peach Ghost Scorpion
Jay's Red Ghost Scorpion
Trinidad Congo Black
Tobago Yellow Scotch Bonnet

Some choices of fine looking plants to fill the last spot;

Brown Moruga
7 Pot Bubble Gum #1
Brain Strain
Yellow Bhut Jolokia (Judy)
Peach Bhut Jolokia
White Devils Tongue
Carolina Reaper
Funky Reaper
Jigsaw

Or additional previously mentioned.

If anyone is interested I would love to hear your choice of these.

I will have two other raised beds for some of the various crosses, Jalapenos and Numex varieties.  The remainder will be put in #5 pots with a few larger sizes 7, 10, 15, and 20.  Also many shared with coworkers and friends.

Dropped in my local 3rd Coast Horticulture shop today with a dozen varieties of pepper seeds for them.  The newer employee's were all smiles when the owner told them I was the guy that dropped off two dozen varieties last year.  Lots of happy chatter about Yellow 7 Pots and Scorpions.

I saw an article about Sean the owner on the countertop from the magazine, "Maximum Yeild" in which it mentions he has garnered the attention of the USDA with his tea making.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Thanks for looking,

Mike

Thanks Jason,  I think flavor is all important to me.  I loved the peach bhuts and the peach habs that I got from Judy.  I got the feeling she liked the habs better for the freshness longevity once ripe.  Have to work fast or freeze as you go with the Peach bhuts I guess.

Tough choice there Mike. Peach bhut for flavor, Bbg7 for coolness, or brown moruga, reapers, jigsaw, brain for heat. Tough choice! I would just squeeze them all in. ;)

So true Mike!
I turned up the quantity of peach bhuts this season. I might have 16 to 20 or more to choose from at the moment. I enjoyed the flavor for sure!
Turning the guys at the shop with some plants sound cool.
I need to hit up one of the other locations of ours here in the metro area. Have been told the chili heads are at one of the other stores and that they grow some supers there. Not much pepper wise at the location I end up at.
I have giving a few guys there some pods, but only one guy had any passion for them.

Good stuff, Mike. Plants are looking good, love it that you shared the remainder with friends and co-workers :) I couldn't just give them away after taking care for them, unless I would be sure they wouldn't destroy the plant ;) Have a good weekend!

Looking good Mike!

Congrats on the kids doing so well in the competition! That had to be fun ;)

I'm in the same boat with too many plants, and am going to decide tomorrow where the last will go.

I sold some and then gave those that bought some feebee's. It's hard to part with them for sure!

Have a great weekend!
