catchthebear 2019

Hello everyone.

It's my first time posting a grow log here, so if I do something wrong please yell at me.

I finally had time to put together a list of all the peppers I have started this year.  I also relabeled every plant with giant labels using a grease pencil.   I'm tired of running into mystery plants halfway through the season!

It's a busy time of year at work for me, but things are finally starting to slow down a hair.

Still haven't pushed my babies out of the nest yet.  Had some hail a couple days ago that scared me off putting them out.  Maybe next week. :)

I plan to put about half of them in the ground and the other half in pots.  Would like to be able to easily isolate certain varieties when they start flowering.

I've also decided that this is my last year using the double cup method.  Big pain in the ass.

Still looking for some Tovarii seeds too. Don't intend to start any more seeds this year, but hope to run across some before next season.

Hope everyone has a good season ahead.
Cheers,
Matt

Add me to the list with you guys.  My 2 big plots just died off as well.  All I have left are the plants at home that can come in at night.

But already psyched for next season!

Seems like you had a great season CTB. So many cool varieties and solid production.

I'm already stoked for next season too, lol.  Processing/organizing all these seeds is definitely an undertaking, but it will be worth it in the end.

I set the bar way too high and had more plants I could ever hope to look after this year.  Also had a super late start with all the rain in the spring and early summer (which completely killed off my one plot down by the pond).  Added fertilizer too late to the potted up plants, and those suffered.  Still wound up with a good amount of pods and peppers I've never grown before.  Not sure how many of them I'll grow again next year. Probably just a handful of the non-wilds.

Very much looking forward to being finished with this seed project.  Seems like it's never ending.  Still have many plants I dragged inside putting out pods, so that will keep me out of trouble.

Thanks for being there from the start and keeping an eye on what I was up to!  I don't think I would have put a GLOG together if it wasn't for you :)

Willing to trade whatever you're interested in from up there.  I'm interested in wilds, colored calyxes, interesting crosses. Still have a few weeks of chipping away to get the list completed.

Some wilds/rare ones I haven't listed here, as I don't have many available.

I'd be happy to swap something for some
Lemon Starburst and Variegated Jalapeño.

You can check out my glogs or my profile list
to see if there is anything you'd like. The Purple
Thunder and PdN x BMJ might be interesting
crosses for you. The Yellow BrainStrain put
out some nice pods this season as well.

Kudos for a great season after all is said and done.
That's quite a list of peppers!

Sounds good, Paul!  I'll set some of those aside for you.  I'll poke through your glog, but those two sound great to me :)

Have a wedding to go to this weekend, so I'll be AWOL until Monday, most likely.  Just wanted to get this list thrown up here and keep up with things.

Nice list CTB!  Lots of work in processing those for seed.

Which varieties were you most impressed with this season?

EDIT:  Hey, don't give all the variegated jalap's to PaulG!  ;)

These were my favorites in no particular order.  Based on either how they looked, produced, or tasted.

Thunder Mountain Longhorn
Brazilian Starfish Orange
Chupetino Pink
Lemon Starrburst
Midnight BBG7
Red Lightning Habanero
Pink Tiger X Peach Bhut
Variegated Jalapeno
BBG7 X Tobasco
Bleeding Heart Yellow
Galapagos Habanero
Flexuosum
Mutants
Wild Japanese Pepper

I have a couple Lanceolatum and Rhomboideum plants that I will overwinter.  Only had one flower on the Lance, so hopefully I can keep them around and see some pods next year.  I'd like to focus more next year on varieties that I really find interesting instead of trying to grow so much at once (basically throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks).

The Cumari Pollux produced tons for me, but they taste like soap.  I'll keep all the pods in case anyone wants some, but I won't do anything with 'em.  Regardless, I was happy they did well here.

I'll save some variegated Jalapenos for the both of you guys! Lol. I've had a few others ask about those too.  Very interested to see what those seeds will produce.

Love your 'portrait' logo. Very consistent appearance
to your products with it!

Looking forward to some variegated jalapeño seeds!

Be sure to check my grow logs/profile list to see if there
is anything else I can send back your way! Will pack up
some of the above-mentioned seeds today...

Thanks Paul!  Gotta love putting your own face on things. I'm trying to figure out how to customize them individually on the template provided with the labels, but so far I'm only able to print like 100 at once.  Might not get the fancy packs from me just yet. Lol

The ones you mentioned sound good to me.  The Mr. Sausage one intrigues me too...

The Muripi pods are real beauties with the white color.

The mutant cross looks radioactive!

First time growing the Murupi.   Didn't even realize the pods had turned until I was watering them today.

And, yeah! The mutants are so cool. Some people are doing crazy things with mutant crosses.

Edit: Do need to spray for aphids though.  Noticed a few of those jerks on a few plants I brought inside.

Currently addicted to making Micheladas. Super tasty.

Cumari Pollux.  Not a big fan of the taste of these.  Soapy.

What my Wiri Wiri ended up looking like.  Forgot where my seeds came from.
