Sorry if this has been discussed before (i did a search, didn't find anything), but I think having a chatroom is a good idea. I understand that from a moderator's point of view this is just more work and something else to pay hosting for, so I understand if yall wouldn't want to, just think it would be fun :(

What do you guys think? good or bad idea?
 
i'd like to recommend just having an IRC room put up. Another forum i visit has done this to great success. if you need more info on it, i can pm one of the admins i'm friendly with there.

I know some ppl who write 3rd party Yahoo chat clients like Yahelite Yazak etc. But you're probably wanting an in-forum (in browser) chat - I'll ask around tonight.

I know nothing about chat rooms so I will be staying neutral and go with the flow....
 
there are sevaral chat modules for this forums, but IRC can have issues attached to it..and is lotsof work.

AJAX chats have goten betetr tho.
 
IRC is great for all us Oldtimers,The newer chat clients are not bad,But other Chili forums have used them, stopped them and it seems only a few people get much use out of them looking at the CHAT rooms/Clients they use today :lol:
 
Agreed, is a waste of resources.

I've implemented chat on a few forums, none were used well.

We don't need it..we have IM for that.
 
We had one here once but the admin said it was unstable so it got canned. I just remember IGG and i having some fun with it's built-in word censorship.

We tried that too. Actually, bubba was the main one who tried to schedual them....I was usually at the brewery during those times.
