CMPMAN1974 - 2012 Grow Log - Started 2/26/12

Well, after a long awaited time, I finally got some seeds in dirt this evening. Wow, it took a long time as some of these names of these varieties are long. :) My theme this year...Pequins/Tepins - rare ones & AFRICA. Also, I think some rare Brazilian varieties will be planted too along with some Pubescens in the next few days. I have no idea how germination will be on some of these African varieties, but it should be fun. I enjoy market varieties and odd stuff found off the beaten path.

Here's what I've got sowed to date. Wish me luck!

Chris

I highly endorse AISPES. I have been friends with the originators for many years and they are great individuals and completely dedicated to this hobby. They are growing many nice varieties and truly work to isolate/stabilize rare ones. Their research on wild peppers is quite incredible given their visits to Brazil.

Chris

Thanks a lot for the quick reply sir. Are you expected to isolate and record data when you grow out their seeds. That would be cool. I used google translate took a 5 minute looksee of the site a long while back. I also am looking into CGN also. Again, thanks for your helpx

WOW Chris, your the second person this season where this hybrid has thrown out a chocolate varient,
the hybrid has been putting out the caramel strains...until now!
hows the heat on them and flavour? looks like they are a good size..

The 7 Pot Yellow x Bhut Carbon cross Spicegeist made is wicked looking too. I'll taste some tomorrow. :)

Very nice, looks about what I would have imagined... did the taste come out more Y7 or Bhut-like?

Incredible how they look almost completely like the longer, pointy Cajamarca father pollen donator... the mother Choco Bhut was very hot, but the Cajamarca so-so... how was the heat?

Anyone think my NOT Black Naga Mean Red doesn't look hot inside? :) Without a doubt, the Peach Bhut Jolokia is the best tasting super hot I've ever had. Thanks AjiJoe. It's gorgeous and tastes incredible - what a combination. It's not completely stable look and size wise, but it's on the way. I have several plants. One has great looking pods - hoping they ripen peach. I'll be thrilled if they do.
The TS Morouga Yellow weighed in at 23+ grams. :)

Grant, I didn't taste the pods yet, but it is an absolutely massive producer. Much better than a Chocolate Bhut non-cross. It's loaded at each node. :)
I'll let you know. By the way, they definitely are a nice size.

I actually thought it had more Y7 taste and heat. I enjoyed it very much. Great cross you made here!

Heat is significantly hotter than a standard Cajamarca. You can surely tell the parent as the stems are purple in some places. :) Not a super hot, but a good heat level - maybe 8 of 10 - better flavor than straight Cajamarca too. You're doing well with the crosses for sure. Thanks for sharing with me.

Like the new backgrounds! Any certain shape you are trying to get with the not black naga mean? I had a bunch turn out like the pod on the right in the pic. At first the tail was tucked up in the pods, and eventually the pod elongated and the tail seperated like that one. I had a couple where the tail stayed up inside too. Not sure if you have looked at the thread you started about that pepper but I posted some pics.

Yeooow Chris I thought the Gogo's Laudium looked mean, then I saw all the super hots and crosses, yep my eyes teared up and had to look away. Looks like my Chiroprator is going to miss out on getting any super hots from me. The heat wave set them back a good month or more, I did see one bloom on my trinidad red scorpion so maybe I'll get a pod or to come Christmas. I guess I will have to buy some fresh pods from some one, so My chiroprator will know they are not all hype. He did check out some vids of some people eating some on his computer, but he's like a Missouri Mule, stubburn to the last. I need to find something really scary for him to try. What do your neighbours think about your little hobby?

Looking good Chris. You should put together a coffee table book with all your pictures. Then sign me up for one.

I am loving the Cumari Do Para you sent me seed for. The Black Thais are red, but if you close your eyes they are black lol. Thai Variegated are being loved by a neighbor and saved here for powders. I will have to see if I can send you something odd.

Also, do you know of anyone with good Cumari Ou Passarinho seed? Mine was short and bushy but the seed I pulled apparently crossed with the neighboring red habs...then the bee went to my Naga Jolokias so I have 1 plant with yellow NJ's.

Edit for spelling

Do you think these pods from my garden are Pimenta Chris? I've 4 plants from your seed packet, two of which grew out true to Brito's Mystery Peach Chinense (awesome chile, by the way!), and the other 2 are making the below wonderful, very hot pods. The flavor and aroma are a whole lot like Congo Trinidad, but the meat is thicker and juicier. It's really a wonderful chile, and I want to grow it from now on. If you like I will send you some fresh pods to help you ID them:

Chris, your grow is outstanding. You, Vlad and Greg are deff raising
the bar for pod porn pics!' I'm glad to see you are having a good grow.
I want to eat those Not Black Nagas! Love the thin walled hotties!

Keep up the good work, my friend. Hope you are having a great week!

I will grow these Orange Thai peppers every year I ever have a garden! I'm addicted to them. Perfect quick heat for thai dishes.

PepperJam, GREAT NEWS - I did find a Kashmiri Mirch plant in my garden. :) Ripe pod pictured just for you. I'll taste it very soon. It looks very much like Pakistani (C. ann) from PepperLover.

How do you like the multi-color birdseye I'm growing? Purple to yellow to red!

George, I can't even imagine what my neighbors must think about all the pepper plants. They don't talk a whole lot. lol. I guess that's a good thing. I keep my yard clean so no complaints. Look me up next month when more ripens. I'll try to help your chiropractor turn to the dark side of super hots. lol.

The Black Thai - TQ is a very interesting plant from an ornamental standpoint. Beautiful flowers and foliage. The contrast of non-ripe jet black pods to medium green to blazing red is stunning. I wish they had a better taste. They certainly are unique.

Hmmmm...coffee table picture book. :) Maybe you're on to something there. That would be fun.

I'm pretty sure somewhere I have pure Cumari O' Passarinho seeds from my early days. I liked that one so much. Sometimes I wish I didn't get caught up in the new stuff all the time and grew some classics like that one. Nice heat, tremendous flavor. I'll take a look soon to see if I can come up with any.

I'm glad you liked Brito's mystery peach. Did you get the super symetrical pod look on the true plants? It was pretty amazing. If memory serves me right based on plant placement in my beds, odds are your cross below has Congo Trinidad (C. chin) as one of the parents. I'm glad you like the pepper. It sounds pretty good. Let's hope future grow-outs will retain the attributes.

I grew the Wae Mae Wo chiles from BootsieB too... They came out the same size as yours. Very thin walled and quite easy to dry. I ate a whole ripe one and it definitely lit me up... mouth, lip and throat burn that lasted about 10 minutes and involuntary hiccups that lasted about a minute. Some tearing, sweating and runny nose too.

Cumari ou passarinho ? C. praetermissum? C. chacoense? I have both wild species seems I heard that one of them might be it. If so I can save some pure seeds. Things are looking up for some of my peppers for awhile I kept getting a wild aji that had 1/4 inch long peppers on it, I was hoping that it was my portuguese orchid pepper which I still think I have in my garden some where I really like this pepper's flavor and mild heat. Any way I pulled two and cut back on three others that were the wild ajis. My Bhuits are still putting out flower's So a big whoopi there. I've got some other wild upstarts that keep popping up after three months one maybe a wild Microcarpum sp. others are chiltepin crosses I'm hoping one might be a tepin x brown Bhut these are seeds that did nothing in their cups so I just dumped the soil in a large container of mixed late starters.
Yeah Chris I will keep you in mind as I will just need two or three super hots, If I eat one in front of him I'm sure He will come over to the dark side and take his brain and mouth to the next dimention. I got on PepperJoe's list for the Carolina Reaper HP22B a bit steap on the price but I looking forward to growing it. i don't know if any one else is growing it yet that would have a few seeds. Oh while I'm thinking of it are all the Gogo's Laudium twisted? The photo was a bit dark and hard to see.

Wohoo Chris, good to see you have a living kashmiri mirch. Mine is doing soso, some of my annums are not doing so great due to the heat. Ill dry my pods and make a powder. I remember judy mentioned the pakistani pod taste bad when fresh, but taste great when dried and made a powder. Might be the same case for kashmiri. I noticed these pods we grew are longer than the dried pods i took the seeds from. Maybe a hybrid?

Moving right along.... I'm really enjoying this strange NOT Monster Infinity yellow/orange cross. It's pretty cool looking. Reminds me of my NOT Black Naga Mean Red Cross, but yellow. lol. I also have a ripe red Monster Infinity cross pepper too from the same source. The 7 Pot Evergreens remain HUGE. Such a cool looking variety PepperLover! Trinidia is also great looking. The pods are identical to what Judy posted in 2011 on her grow log. A nice cross. She commented on the parents before. One was a Bhut - other maybe Trinidad Scorpion?? Hence the name Trindia = Trinidad and India combined. :) The other pods on the plant have more pronounced curved tails as she illustrated.

Chris
