CMPMAN1974 - 2012 Grow Log - Started 2/26/12

Well, after a long awaited time, I finally got some seeds in dirt this evening. Wow, it took a long time as some of these names of these varieties are long. :) My theme this year...Pequins/Tepins - rare ones & AFRICA. Also, I think some rare Brazilian varieties will be planted too along with some Pubescens in the next few days. I have no idea how germination will be on some of these African varieties, but it should be fun. I enjoy market varieties and odd stuff found off the beaten path.

Here's what I've got sowed to date. Wish me luck!

Chris

OMG are these 7 Pot 'Brain Strain' pods from Pepperlover.com seed crazy hot!! I got a red cross from the yellow pod seeds. Big pods too. Big 7 Pot Congo SR pods from my saved seed from 2011. :) I tried to eat the Elefant pod. It's a super striated one when ripe. I can't believe a pepper maggot left one of these alone! It's very meaty, but I can't stomach eating the exterior. Yuck.

them brains are no joke! my "tree" has well over 100 pods on it and it has a great flavor but is so HOT, cant wait to use a 105MM lens ot get some close up of the oil in mine!

i love looking at your great pod porn!

Spongey, that sounds like a great producing plant. You gave me an idea about the close-up. :) I may take one of those pods to see if I can capture the oil too. Sounds like fun!

I'm glad you enjoy the pictures. :)

Looking good, Chris. This is the first year you are growing out those Pimenta Tiger Peach variation right? If I remember correct they look exactly like last year's pod. Any variation at all on the plant or seems pretty stable already?

Meatfreak, this variety IMO is anything but stable. AISPES is working on it. The seeds came from a pod that was red with black stripes so that should be a good indicator. You are correct last season I had a spin off of a Pimenta Elisa pod that was peach and looked very similar. I think peach pods is definitely a likely variant, but red with stripes is the targeted true Pimenta Tiger. I would bet good money I could grow 50 plants of these two varieties and get 25 different looking pod shapes/coloring. I don't mind one bit as I think this cross is incredible.

My first ever 7 Pot Burgandy - nice big pods. :) I LOVE this Nebru variety. Honestly, I thought it may be just a standard Yellow 7 Pot, but when I cracked it open, the seed distribution / placing is different than TS Morouga Blend Yellow - less and all at top. Flavor is superb and heat is very high. It lit me up, but tasted like tropical fruit. Pretty cool. Had to run to the milk carton fast. lol.

Thanks. :) Is it just me or can you see a face in the pod picture of the Nebru variety - the pod on the right? :)

Chris

OK, I have several plants of this Chocolate Morouga. THis one is more to my liking. They all differ quite a bit. This one is a super hot. A few more pods from today.

I can see the face. His nose is kind of squashed though.

As always great photos of some wicked pods.

If Marco is working on the P. tigers I'm sure AISPES will have a stable one real soon.

Patrick, speaking of Pimenta Tiger....this is one FREAKY looking pod I got. It's literally jet purple/black. I have not gotten any red ones with stripes. Most are peach pods which are beautiful and hot, but this one off plant produced a blended purple/black spotted pod. It's so hard to tell when ripe. The pod is squishier and the seeds look mature. I'll leave more on the plant to see if anything more happens, but I doubt it. It's almost Pimenta 'black and blue' pepper. It's very tough to accurately show the colors of this pod.

Trinidia has tails that come back to sting you. :)

Hey Chris, Yah I can see a face you just need to look at it for awhile or it just could be the Morphine kicking in. Great pics of your peppers, you have such a unusual list of peppers. I'm still waiting to see if I will have a couple ripe Bhuts before Frost hits, I get to see my chiropractor on the 4th of september then again on my 60th birthday which is the 1st of October I'm hoping that I will have a couple ripe pods to show him, right now all I have is flowers I'm hoping I have enough time for the pods to get ripe by the end of October with out them getting hit by frost. I have a couple Bhuts planted in a long container with a tall C. chacoense and my crazy F4 purple pepper X galapagoense, So all I have to do is move them inside the rest of the Bhuts are in raised beds I'll have to do something that will give them frost protection. There is a lot of talk about PepperJoes new Carolina Reaper, I was going to buy a pack of seeds, but I think I would be better off getting a trinadad scorpion pod along with a primo or Brain strain pod or at least something close. Something that is scary looking and insainly Hot. Right now A mixed box of the crazy super hots goes from $25 for a small box to $40 for a larger one. I'll check back in late September to see if the prices have dropped some. Right now I have to many big Bills that need to be paid and I have to find a better HealthCare Insurance that will pay more of my Hospital and drug bills with out making me Homeless.
Next year I hope to get on top of things so I'll have ripe peppers by mid to late August. You should really look into what it would take to make a few coffee table books showing all the photos and foot notes to have on the peppers I bet you could sell a bunch of them.

I'm FINALLY getting to the end of the Mexican Pequins. :) I am having fun growing these. I'm saving the best one for last - the massive tree-like plant. No ripe pods yet.

A picture of the super striated jalapeno from Hell. lol.

The new Trinidad Douglah strain I am growing this season in which all pods face upwards. Very odd. Look hot?
