CMPMAN1974 - 2012 Grow Log - Started 2/26/12

Well, after a long awaited time, I finally got some seeds in dirt this evening. Wow, it took a long time as some of these names of these varieties are long. :) My theme this year...Pequins/Tepins - rare ones & AFRICA. Also, I think some rare Brazilian varieties will be planted too along with some Pubescens in the next few days. I have no idea how germination will be on some of these African varieties, but it should be fun. I enjoy market varieties and odd stuff found off the beaten path.

Here's what I've got sowed to date. Wish me luck!

Chris

Your Jalapeno Farmer's Market Potato looks a lot more like a Jalapeno then mine, Chris. I'm growing it also, but looks like it's crossed with something else, pods are about 7 to 8 inch long and less corking then yours. Purple/Black Pimenta Tiger looks great!

Now this Peach Bhut is my favorite size/look. Meet my seed pod for next year. :) Pretty happy with these monstrous 7 Pot Evergreens too. Oh and who says HP22B and 7 Pot Primos are the only tails in town? This is the more common form of Trindia on my plant. It's Pepperlover.com's creation.

Thanks a lot. :)

Love your pictures Chris. Keep em coming man.

Grant, I definitely like that strain of Douglah. Reminds me a brown Sunrise Scorpion. I find the original Douglah plant to be more productive, but I like this pod shape better.

some nice Mexicans begining to show Chris, I have the same strain from Sara where the douglah is growing upwards, they all have a nice shape to them also

I agree. Very crazy looking!! It actually tastes OK though. lol.

Cantaloupeno!! That thing is crazy!!

Last year I got some freak version of it too. One plant had pods that were that size and pretty wide. The damn pods were like lead pipes weight wise. lol Unfortunately, the pepper maggots destroyed them so I ddn't get to taste those particular ones. I'm not sure I wanted to though!

Chris one of my P. tigers had all blue/black pods last season. You're right about knowing when the pods are ripe, kind of a pain in the hiney having to squeeze every pod before picking it. I did have one pod from my AISPES ghost plant and right now it's exploding with buds and flowers, just hope we don't run out of summer before it produces. Looked just like the pod you posted above. Looks like the AISPES TS Morouga Blend yellow is settling in, you getting consistent pod shape? Like the macro shot of the inside of the Trinidad Douglah SR, you in manual mode for that one? I'm going to have to get some Trindia seeds from Judy too. If that beast is half as hot as it looks I'm in trouble.

As always nice pics.

Chris....you are really making it difficult to keep my grow list under control for next year. The Burgandy 7 Pot, Hix's Chocolate Morouga, the SR Douglah, and of course PL's big green baby are looking beautiful!

That sounds about the same as the pods I got hanging right now, they are really heavy and look rock hard. He's a picture from one a couple of days ago.

Not to tout my own picture, but DAMN do I like this one of Potawie's 5 Color x Whippet's Tail F3 I'm growing this year. So breathtaking color wise. :) Thanks for sharing.

Bootsieb, I really enjoyed Meoko go Ddo - nice size, moderate heat and excellent flavor. My favorite Korean variety you sent for sure. Thanks.

Just got caught up on the last 4 pages. Beautiful pics as always. How can you tell the difference between a 7Pod yellow and the Trinidad Scorpion 'Morouga Blend' yellow? Flavor? Heat?

A few more from tonight. I'm having fun growing this White Bhut Jolokia from AISPES. I have a fair number of plants and many different spin offs as it's not stable yet. I have a pure White strain (desired), a pale yellow and this great one pictured below. It produces nice size orange (more than yellow) pods wiht a very 'flattened' look. The flavor is phenomenal. I am really, really looking forward to making a powder out of it.

I'm also playing around with different plants of a Trinidad Scorpion 'Morouga Blend' Red x Bhut Cross given to me by a Finland grower last year. I grew the F2 strain and saved seeds. The F3 is producing lots of different looks. One plant has very, very thick walled pods. I need to crack it open tonight to see how the interior looks.

Also, a Trinidad Douglah pod from one of QuebecFIre, an old member here. He generously isolated the seed indoors for many people. If you still are here, THANK YOU. :) This seed was from 2008 I used to grow it.

My original Trinidad Scorpion 'Morouga Blend' Red too - pods are starting to get larger and plants are loaded. Seed was from my own saved stock in 2007.

Patrick, I'm pretty happy with my pod shapes on the TS Morouga Blend Yellow - AISPES this season. I have 12+ plants and 90% of them look identical. I would like a variation with long stinger tails, but generally, they are huge pods, meaty and a great look. No complaining here.

No manual mode on that Douglah close-up. A very high diopter close-up lens and stready hands. Depth of field is minimal on these set-ups so it's hard to get as much focus as I want. Thanks for the compliment on the pictures. :)

Yes, Potawie definitely pulls off miracles! I really like the Lightning Habanero too. There are four colors of it. I only grew one. James Weaver, one of AjiJoe's friends, made this I believe. He's very talented!

Leave it to POTAWIE to come up with a pepper that goes through the rainbow. Nice photo. That Lightning Hab is pretty cool too.

It's tough honestly. I retain names as given to me by seed suppliers. I do feel the difference between the two, though small, is the pod shape, seed hull placement and heat level. The 7 Pot Yellow has less placenta, seeds distributed high up in the pod, and a less consistent pod shape IMO. However, on any given day, I could pick wrong if there were a lot of plants in the garden. There's just too many names now for similar varieties. The confusion will only continue. Fortunately, I just love to grow stuff so I don't let myself get flustered bv the mania. .lol.

I need to taste them tonight. There were so damn many of them on my two plants! They produce a LOT!! I don't see C. chinense traits on the plant, but Vladan says the flowers are different than the parent pods Macarena. I never grew the original Macarena (C. annuum) pod. I have the seed, but just didn't try yet. I'll report back on taste/heat.

Those Doumala f1 look yummy

OMG, I want nothing more to do with the thick-walled TS Morouga Blend Red x Bhut F3 cross. My stomach is killing me. What a weird pod - smooth exterior for the most part and just deadly heat. Look at the interior. My stomach still is aching and I was breaking out in chills! I had a small piece too. Taste buds are fried for the evening now.

I believe I would pass on that last one there Chris. It looks like it's full of molten lava. It would not surprise me to see smoke coming from it.

Do you have a light box set up? Wish I still had steady hands. For close up stills I should use Mr Small Tripod.

+1. That is one mean looking pod. I can feel it hitting my stomach and writhing in extreme pain just from looking at it

God those are some mean looking peppers Chris, Oh while I'm thinking about it I posted a trade in the grow Tech area you might want to look at what I'm trading just to see if you might want it. I posted it there as I couldn't get it posted at the market place.
Those are some great peppers keep posting pictures as I love the eye candy.

Few more tonight. This NOT White Bhut AISPES Yellow Cross is just MASSIVE. Makes a quarter look like a pencil dot. Pretty impressive. Tremendous flavor too. You bite into it and it's like citrus. You can smell it when you cut it open. So far, I have a White strain, yellow and orange. :) I'm going for the rainbow and loving it.

Got a weird NOT SB7J cross too in the garden. Very hot sharp burn. I guess it's a cross of a cross, right Patrick? lol.

Few others too...
