CMPMAN1974 - 2012 Grow Log - Started 2/26/12

Well, after a long awaited time, I finally got some seeds in dirt this evening. Wow, it took a long time as some of these names of these varieties are long. :) My theme this year...Pequins/Tepins - rare ones & AFRICA. Also, I think some rare Brazilian varieties will be planted too along with some Pubescens in the next few days. I have no idea how germination will be on some of these African varieties, but it should be fun. I enjoy market varieties and odd stuff found off the beaten path.

Here's what I've got sowed to date. Wish me luck!

Chris

That's a huge number of pepper plants! Looking forward to the great photos down the road. Hope the weather is perfect for the entire season Chris.

Thanks everyone. Dropped another 125+ plants in soil today. it looks like my total plant count was higher than originally anticipated. I start about 300 pepper plants. I'm hoping to get 40-50 more in soil, but I need to save room for eggplant transplants. I use them a lot for cooking. I need a farm. lol. No matter how much space I use, I always wish for more. My wife keeps telling me it's time to start a little business out of this hobby since I spend so much time/effort doing it.

Chris

You sound like me, Chris! I started with about 60 sq ft, then added a perennial herb bed, then rented a 10' x 20' plot at the community garden. The next year, I rented two plots at the community garden, still didn't have enough room, and started planting along the outside of my backyard in the empty lot next door, LOL! Still wish I had more space!!!

Highalt, we don't have community gardens here. If we did, I'd be on that too. :) I think the magic number of pepper plants for me SHOULD be 125-150 each year, but I never comply with it. That would give me room to grow other stuff too. Hey I can put it in perspective. Look how many plants Jim Duffy and Baker's Nursery grow!

I hear ya'! I gave up growing broccoli, cauliflower, or any leafy green stuff at the comm. plot this year, so that I'd have more room for peppers, LOL You're still way ahead of me though. Last year, I probably had somewhere around 35 to 40 plants, and this year, assuming everything survives this latest weather, it should be close in the neighborhood of 75 -80.

Well, they are finally almost all in the ground. 250+ plants! I have a few more to go. I have 8-10 Trinidad Scorpion Morouga Blend Yellow plants to drop in somewhere. :) Need to find space somehow. There are about 15-20 extras. I have a friend with a big garden. I bet he'll help me. :) My shoulders are killing me from all the planting. lol. Tough work.

Chris

I can only look on in Jealousy at guys who have the space to grow that many plants ... one day maybe ...one day ....

feel the burn LOL :fireball:(pun very much intended)

no pain no gain we all love it else we would not go through the trouble

keep it up Chris!!

your friend Joe

Your a beast Chris, can't wait to see the "fruits" of your labor! Btw, that possible Green Scorpion/Mata Frade cross I had mentioned earlier....was growing great, about 10" tall, got snapped of clean at gound level :(.

I definitely cram in more plants than I should in the amount of space I have. I always sacrifice plant size for variety. Done it for years. I guess I'm wired like that. :)

So true Joe. I do enjoy it or I wouldn't do so much!

That's a real bummer the plant was destroyed. :( It's happened to me in the past too. Somrtimes you can't win them all. I find that Chocolate Habalokia and White Bullet Habanero had a tendancy to do just that.
