CMPMAN1974 - 2012 Grow Log - Started 2/26/12

Well, after a long awaited time, I finally got some seeds in dirt this evening. Wow, it took a long time as some of these names of these varieties are long. :) My theme this year...Pequins/Tepins - rare ones & AFRICA. Also, I think some rare Brazilian varieties will be planted too along with some Pubescens in the next few days. I have no idea how germination will be on some of these African varieties, but it should be fun. I enjoy market varieties and odd stuff found off the beaten path.

Here's what I've got sowed to date. Wish me luck!

Chris

There are no flowers on this one yet, but I'm pretty sure the flowers will be purple like most. This was a real freak pod Smokemaster got from a local produce market. I highly doubt it's stable, but he did provide someone a plant he grew which was said to grow almost pure white pods! I'm really hoping I get lucky as that would be incredible for a pubescens. If they do produce, he's first in line. :) I made him a promise about that. It would be quite rare. I'm not talking about pale yellow - pure white. :)

He said something about selling the seeds for $3 each and calling it the WR34B albino strain. Kidding.

Chris

I agree Spicegeist. Most likely, it's not stable per my source, but I'm having fun trying anyways. It's a beautiful plant. That Black Thai is very cool looking IMO. I haven't seen anything quite like it. It's a cross one of my sources sent me they grew for several years. It was originally from Orange Thai seed I sent them. It turned out to be very unique and appears more stable. The combination of the foliage color, pod color - jet black and flower beauty is a real stand out!

Chris

The first pepper I grew before I went crazy (growing too many plants) was a purple peruvian, I don't grow it anymore, but I have a sweet spot for the purple plants too. The Pimenta da Neyde I have going now is really beautiful, stands out from the other plants. Also giving a shot at a few crosses with that one this year ;)

Chris,

I think you have had more heat this season than we have had down here in the desert. I am kicking myself for not stating seed this season as we had a very mild May and June which let my CCN plants actually pod up for the first time ever before august. Hope the heat breaks for you and the plants explode. Did your TigerTail survive the heat?

Great update Chris. I can't wait to see the Black Super! I am really liking all the black and purple peppers. I think I have to grow some more next season.

Rich, yes, it is an annuum. A very interesting looking twisted pod so far. It's a gorgeous plant and quite productive. I'm happy with it. I grew a black thai in the past, but this is much different. Better IMO.

Chris

Black Thai? As in Black Thai annum? Like a thai dragon? Sweet!

Picture of one of my heirloom tomato flowers today.

Michael, yes I have a couple of these plants in the garden. :) I didn't forget! I'm looking forward to seeing how they do. The heat has been BRUTAL here the last week. Worst I remember in a long time! :(

Chris you always have the coolest pods and photos. I still have pictures of the first pods you even sent me. The white bullet, gold, wild chacoense, aribibi, all the good ones! Do you know that to this day, I till havent grown out the gold bullets? lol! I could never get a seed to germ.... Any way, keep up the strain hunting and detailed documentation dude!

Thanks Rich. I'm always thrilled to hear you liked what I sent years ago. Don't give up on the Gold Bullet yet. I think I have some original seeds in the commercial packet! I'm sure they are still good. I don't have too many issues germinating 8-10 year old seed. I'll get some your way when I find them. It's worth trying, but the White Bullet is more prolific IMO.

I got out and took a few pictures of the garden this morning. They have been in the ground for 5 weeks now. Some are growing faster than others, but they are moving along. I'm having some issues with ones on the back fence. I think it's time for a soil test. The ones in my mounded beds seem happy!

No trade necessary Rich! You've helped me lots of time. In fact, I am almost done with the fatalii pods you sent late last year. :) I use them in recipes every week.

Yeah, I'm a bit of a fanatic when it comes to filling up empty space with peppers, but I'm sure most could guess I have that problem. lol.

Chris

Everything is looking prestine Chris .

My wife would love to have you come over and tidy up my pepper patch ;)

Thank you for the update.

Great work Chris all those pepper plants are coming along fantastic, can't wait to see the pods!
on another note, I have growing a C. Pubescens that has pure white flowers and orange pods very nice plant...
