Alrighty folks! It's almost plant out time and that means that my basement and lights are going to be freed up for some crossing projects through the summer.

I have 4 DWC buckets available for growing peppers indoors all summer. (not to mention racks for seedling growout)
2 spots are already taken by White Fatalii and CGN-21500.

These Plants will be the Base for all my other crosses. Meaning that I will use pollen from plants that are outdoors in the rest of my collection crossed with these. These will be tagged and harvested and grown out in the basement to choose phenos. I'm planning on going for taste more than heat.

Plants to choose from

My biggest focus will be crossing the White Fatalii with CGN-21500 but will do plenty of other crosses with them as well.

Once the poll is complete Thursday night- the two winning plants will be moved to the hydro system and this thread will serve as my grow log for this project.

Y'all are more than welcome to offer suggestions as to what you would like to see crossed with what as well. I'm sure I will be sharing seeds with most of you at some point (prolly F2? maybe some F1's)

I was thinking White Bhut X aji omni color as well. Love the omni colors for their appearance. Just ate one this morning and wasn't thrilled with the taste though. Not horrible but not great either

That and no garuntee on germination rates. I could very well only end up with a couple plants. Not to mention my bolsa de dulce weren't very stable concidering I had three plants and all where diffeeent phenos

MAN DOWN!

God damn birds attacked my peppers yesterday, ruined about a dozen including my not a 7pot yellow that was crossed with aji limon. Think a little duct tape will hold it over until it ripens?

I had to resort to bird netting over the plants (which was and is going to be a pain in the fcking ass)

My pollen vials came today! I'm excited for them... except now I have to deal with bird netting in the way every time I collect pollen.....

Got a 100 of them and a case that holds 100 Think I paid $14 for all of it including shipping and a fancy marker

Using a grain of rice as a desiccant. Hopefully it works good

Now to go collect some pollen and create a recording system for it.

Used some the newly collected pollen and dusted White Fatalii with CGN-21500 again since last round didn't take. This time it was in the hydro instead the small plant outside.

Also hit Bahamian goat with Aji Pineapple.

More pollen collected, crossed  a few more plants today.

Serrano with Aji Pineapple 3 flowers

Mao Bonnet with Bahamian goat 2 flowers.

A few of the crossed pods

Not a 7pot yellow bs X Butch T yellow

Aji Amarillo X Caribbean red habanero

Lemon Drop X Inca Berry

Fidalga Roxa X Aji Limon

_MG_0811.JPG

Went ahead and picked the Not a 7pot x Aji Limon, it was starting to get mushy and close to ripening. Smelled hot, like a 7pot but also like a bell pepper... didn't taste it since it was contaminated by the damn birds.

Fairly thick walled

Got 30 seeds out of it. Going to soak some and plant them out tonight. Probably not very many.

Sometimes is frustrating the rate that crosses don't take. All I can do is keep trying though. Pollenated a few more last night. Really hoping the serrano x aji pineapple takes looks promising but every time I get my hopes up and think it's developing they turn around and abort on me.

Dusted trinidad giant congo yellow with aji amarillo and aji amarillo with bolsa de dulce last night. Getting ready to hit bahamian goat with more goatsweed and will hit goatsweed with some bahamian goat. See if I can get something to take
No sprouts from the white fatalii x bolsa de dulce or the not a 7pot y x what ever it was yet.

Did the lift test on a few of the Fidalga roxa pods. They came off easy so I went ahead and picked a few of the crossed pods.

The D: Fidalga Roxa X bolsa de dulce was still a little under-ripe inside.

F: Fidalga Roxa X Aji limon was perfect though none of them had very many seeds.

Got some soaking in a hydrogen peroxide solution and will try germinating in paper towels this time around instead of straight to soil.

i'm doing some research on doing some crossing now, nice to see you showing us all your progress!
Did you find the link showing how to do it?

So far the butterfly tags that I found in the jewelry section at Michaels craft store work nice for labeling flowers. Just make a spreadsheet and assign a number or letter to the cross.

Don't be discouraged if your first attempts don't take. I have way more fail than successful
