DE/str8 shavers unite!

No it is not. Even the five and six blade overpriced crap from Gillette and others doesn't compare.
Get a good straight razor, a leather strop and a friend like me who will touch it up for you free of charge when it needs it.
Then you will never buy another pack of razor cartridges again and you will save hundreds! :)

What do you think of the "micro touch one" that is plugged by the pawn star dude? Putting your straight razor hat down for a second and unbiased answer...

I've never seen it but I know it doesn't compare to a straight regardless of claims.

This is my prized razor so far here. It's a Clauss USMC stamped razor made during WWI (around 1919). My sister gave it to me as a gift she bought on eBay.
I just honed it with my Norton 4,000 grit water stone followed by the Norton 8,000 grit, the Franz-Swaty barber hone and then the Naniwa 12,000 grit water stone.
Going to test shave with it tomorrow.

I have a pretty easy system that allow me to have a close shave without tearing up my face, and the added benefit of not putting any chemicals or petroleum based junk on my face. I shower before getting ready, then afterwards I take a completely natural hair conditioner and put that on my face once I get out the shower and pat my face dry. I use a Mach 3 and go with the grain instead of against it, and the slickness from the conditioner coupled with the Razor allows a shave that is quick and burn free. Hair conditioner may sound crazy, but I learned that from a few models who would use this method in between waxing on their legs. Because there are natural oils in it, it allows a shave that does not tear up your face. I use one by a local company called Pure Life. Its quick, easy and almost mistake free. Afterwards I wash it off, and finish with alcohol free witch hazel. I only have to go over certain areas maybe 1 or 2 times extra, most of the time one pass is enough. The Mach 3 is much better than the cheaper razors, and allows much fewer passes. I am considering using a straight razor though like PMD is using. If I grow a beard like I do sometimes, and then just decide to wack it off, I use an electric one similar to hair clippers and knock off the majority, before using this method. With this way, I almost never make mistakes, and have no burned face or irritation.

AaronTT, I use conditioner on my face in the shower to soften the whiskers before shaving but I use a good shaving soap to shave.

I used to do the same. I used a natural glycerin soap, then I switched to a coconut type. I believe they work well. For myself personally the soaps that worked best for preventing any form of razor burn were very rich, and would cause occasional breakouts, so I switched to the hair conditioner. I found those to have a small advantage in regards to reduction of friction, but the soaps work very good. I used a boars hair lather brush or whatever you call them. Either way certainly beats the usual shaving cream with all the alcohol and chemical junk that they contain, and stinky fragrances.
Nice USMC razor btw

Thanks Aaron. I have many soaps but my favorite still is C.O. Bigelow from Bath and Bodyworks shops if you have one near you. It's made by Proraso in Italy and is fantastic. It has eucalyptus oil in it to soothe and the lather is thick and very comfortable to shave with.
