DE/str8 shavers unite!

Picked up a straight razor from a friend who sent it to me from OK after cleaning it up and restoring it.
Now I am hooked! Straight razor shaving is incredible and you can use the razor for the rest of your life with no cost for blades in a cartridge.

Try one out and see what you think. ;)

Damn slpknot I guess so  I always wanted to try one. Not sure even I even know where to look for one or how much they cost for a good one?

Straight razors are not that hard to shave with if you use them correctly. There is a learning curve though. Scott, you can get a shave ready older restored straight razor for between $50-75. A new one can run anywhere from $75-200 or more depending on what you buy. The best razors are from Solingen Germany, Sheffield England and the USA. Mine is made in the USA by Union Razor which later became Ka-Bar which is a famous knife company. Mine is over 100 years old and my buddy bought it at a flea market for $5. He polished the tarnished on it and honed it which takes some practice as they are different than sharpening a knife.

Nice collection slpknot! My wife said to me, "why do you need so many razors, you have one face?" Why do women need 15 purses when they only have two shoulders to carry them? Fricken women. lol

have a barber friend who collects them, he especially loves the old German made ones and ones made right here in PA

I'd love a straight razor!

Only since I moved to Japan did I experience it for the first time, the Barber asked if I wanted a shave I said sure. They shaved my face, made my eyebrows more shapely, shaved my ears. Hot towels then a shoulder massage.

That's service you don't get in England! Very few barbers still practice it in the UK, hepatitis or worse etc has made it a thing of the past.

Can't beat a straight razor! It's the closest shave I ever had!

I thought it would be cool to have a Russian straight razor added to my collection so I bought this one that arrived today.
I think it's kind of cool and can't wait to restore it, hone it and shave with it.
I may have to have a shot of Stoli after it's done but not before shaving. ;)

Collecting shiny gadgets is just part of being a man.  :D Nice find! How old is it? Is that a Bakelite handle?
Yes sir! ;)
It's from the 1960's I believe and yes the handle is Bakelite as most are. All of my razors are American made except this one and a LeBlonc from France I bought.
The old American razors are among the best ever produced. Of course many of those Americans who made them were of German or English decent and they both make exceptional straight razors.
This is number 17 in my collection and I shave with all of them that are restored and ready to rotate in the shaving schedule. ;)
It's a very rewarding hobby to me and I am going to get into making my own scales as well.

Very nice razor. For almost twenty years I had the old man down the street cut my hair. He always finished with a straight razor shave. He has passed now. But even in his last years (90+) he shook like a leaf until he put that razor on my neck. He was as steady as a sniper once that razor got to my skin. Best flat top and shave ever! Anyways he had several really cool old razors. I sure miss Mr. Holiday. God bless him.

In Soviet Russia, you shave razor !

Nice razor! I'd probably look into getting a straight if I actually shaved haha.
I do miss those amazing smelling shave soaps/creams you can get though. Never will I ever shave with those stupid Gillette things again.
