Hey Smitty-deuce, what do you think of my Clauss razor from the WWI era?
Look at the stamp in the tang of the blade.

I have 17 at the moment and about 8-9 still need to be restored and honed. Straight razors are still very popular all over the world.

Every time I got a haircut on base in Okinawa I would get a neck massage at the end.

I hear they are the best shave and cut available...

Or where real Marines are made . On the Island where you either leave in a bag or across a parade deck...boom....

Just playing Hollywood Marines are ok that's where I pulled my B billet , MCRD San Diego...

Bwahahaha I was trying to find an old paste style shaving cream I used to recommend, the best I found, though I didn't look to hard and options aren't great in backwoods Kanada. It was intended for a brush, but I just creamed it up in my hand.

Finally found it after 10 minutes.

Kaloderma. Smooth as hell. Well, either way it's been discontinued (in 2013 XD) and it looks like you've got quite the collection there.

Shows you how long it's been since I've shaved proper.

Annoying random fact. Straight razors are more or less banned in Canada. We have this lovely contraption.

Guaranteed to give you razor burn each, and every time....

The best part, they pulled the old style ones for "health and safety" reasons, one stated reason was that Barbicide wasen't effective enough. These new disposables have so many tight nooks and crannies, I can't imagine anything short of an autoclave cleaning them properly.

Progress is what we call that up north XD

I'm not sure if it is a ban per se, just that they loaded so many conditions on the use of traditional straight razors that the barbers either switched to Shavette disposables, gave it up, or ignored the new rules. I think there was pressure to get away from anything that could be contaminated with blood.

Barbicide was the go to disinfectant, but apparently not suited for bloodborne diseases, and autoclaving or heavy duty chemicals wear out the old blades quickly.

Disposables are fine for the neck, only made the mistake of getting a facial shave once. Brutal.

Yeah I remember back when I was in the Corp they had to stop using them in the on base barber shops due to the chance of contamination from blood...

Edit..and that's why I started going to the off base Asian barber cause nothing beat a warm shaving cream and straight razor cut...loved it...
