Dennish 2017 - It's Chilli in Yorkshire

Happy New Year!

Still deliberating over my ‘final’ list as per usual!  It will be 'more of the same' with some small tweaks here and there, and no radical changes in approach from me.  I feel I’m close to optimum in terms of squeezing the maximum potential out of my small greenhouse space (8’ x 6’).

Here's my current thinking on the line-up and GH layout, likely to change a bit;

The game is now afoot!  Early sowings in my trusty Garland Fab 4 on New year’s Day;

Pubescens
Rio Huallaga Rocoto

Also, my 6 year old Trindad Scorpion CARDI Yellow has finally begun to sprout after the usual hard root and branch cutback, great to see new leaves unfurling from his mighty old trunk... come on old boy, you can do it!  8)

I’m having a major extension on the house this year in spring, so hoping that my grow won't suffer too much.

Wishing all my friends at THP a bountiful 2017.

Cheers,

Dennis

Glad to see the "old gal" putting on some new growth, I still can't get over the age of the OW and she's still going. You're definitely doing something right ;)

So my brood of early starts pushing on...

I've never felt as nervous about the fate of a single plant, only two seed from my crossing has produced one plant, which cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

That old lady of yours I so covet! I want to have a "pet" pepper plant, we'll see.

Very impressed, Dennis! Carry on..

Thanks Stetto! This plant is older than 2 of my kids so has a special place in my grow each year.

Thanks very much for all the nice comments, appreciate you stopping by guys!

Time for a quick update, all ticking along nicely here I am pleased to report.

Changing of the guard in the prop this week as my rank and file chinense are potted up to 9cm pots and I'm due to sow my baccas and annuums tonight.  I've binned all my spares at this stage for the first time too, I simply don't have the room and I've rarely lost a plant so it's survival of the fittest from hereon in!

Tray of Aji Bodysnatcher F3 (Aji White Fantasy x Lemon Drop), starting to see some slight variations in the plant form and leaf shape now, all coming on well and on target for early poddage.

Various early starts...

Veteran TS CARDI really coming alive now, lots of strong main branches shooting out in all directions and he's even starting to gamely set buds... Steady on old boy!

I've moved the prop out from under the growlight garden now as all the space needed for the plants.  I can get three of these long Ikea trays laden with 9cm pots under the light (12 each maximum, total capacity 36 at a push).  I tend to start to move the bigger plants onto windowsills when space gets too tight.

Tonight into the prop will be...

-- Annuum --
Beaver Dam
Thunder Mountain Longhorn
Santa Fe Grande
Ring of Fire (several plants for giveaways)

-- Baccatum --
Aji Fantasy
Aji White Fantasy
Aji Cristal
Lemon Drop
Nepalese Bell

-- Chinense--
Mystery pick from my seed box to replace Embassy Naga (no-show) TBC!

Plants are looking great Dennis.  You and John with those printed plant markers, so nice.  Mine are barely legible even by me, probably not legible by anyone else.

Thanks Justin!  I've got quite a few in this latest batch from you, good germ rates and so far so good thanks!  I just use printed labels and standard plant markers, nothing fancy!  Think we are all a bit OCD when it comes to organising our plants!  Chilli growing is somewhere between stamp collecting and knife throwing on the scale, with a little bit of both mixed in!

Love that side branching Dennis, and flower buds a bonus!
Thanks Rick, this plant has been trained into a really great growth habit over the years... it shoots out loads of new main branches as laterals, here it is fully loaded a couple of years back!

Hoping year 6 is just as good!
