Do It Yourself Thread...

The other day my mother mentioned to me that she wanted to raise a few chickens and I jumped at the opportunity to build her a coop. So far I have only been able to work at it here and there due to work and injuring my wrist, but I have almost completed the run for her coop. All I have left is to screen in the top and then I will start building the indoor portion on the coop and nesting boxes. My nieces have already claimed the right to paint it. It is nothing fancy, but it will be perfect for a handful of yardbirds and will keep them safe from her cats.

After this, my next big project that I have planned, and it is a monumental one at that, is to build my own experimental aircraft. I have chosen between either a Sonex or a Waiex. My dad was an A&P for most of his life so I got to learn a lot from him. We even restored a 1947 Stinson 108-2 and built a Vans RV-6/A experimental together. When he passed I was left with his entire life's worth of aircraft tools and little knowledge of aircraft, so I feel this is an undertaking I must do.

I'd like to see what some of the folks here have built with their own two hands or would like to build.

What I have done so far on the chicken coop...

So... Are there any folks on here that enjoy building things? Are you building anything right now or do you have plans to build something? Please share with us!

I haven't built too many things. Built my growroom and cabinet. No pics.

Here's my aquarium stand I built a while back. It got dumped in the trash by the foreclosure thugs one day while I was at work though.

Oh and built my garden stuffs

Though the trellises/arbor what ever they are called where prefabs. \

Ok took crappy pics of the basement. Nothing fancy. Need a bump though.

Thanks GM

I been slowly working on finishing my basement. Been off work the past year so it came to a stand still. Soon as income is in the green again going to finish the other half. This is just the storage areas. Going to do a bathroom, fishroom with inwall tank and ect.

Was just a plain concrete basement. Epoxy coated the walls and floors. I'm no drywaller and waiting to mud/paint until the whole basement is finished.Probably pay a mexican to do it cause they seem to be good at it.

Inside storage area one and where I got my peppers currently.

Entrance to "Secure storage 2" with the steel door that has a kickplate.

Inside storage 2. and where my hydro set up is.

My ghetto rigged hydro cabinets.

Side by side grow areas. This one designed to hold 4 DWC buckets and two T5 fixtures.

This one can hold 2 but they are currently not in use and pretty gutted.

sorry none these pics are the best. Normally this side would have 4 of those LED panels hanging in it.

Soon as my peppers get planted out i'm going to do get these going again with some crossing projects.

What is that a striper? Nice catch!

BTW if you ever have a lot of paint rolling to do here's a little trick that will save you a lot of frustration. I didn't figure this out till almost done painting the entire basement. Would of saved a lot of time fighting with pads that kept working off the roller

Staple gun that bitch on. staples pull out real easy to change pads.

Nice coop! I want chickens of my own, but mom's opposed - says they smell. Alas, I'll just make do with the garden for now...

That fenced in garden is lovely.

As for DIY, Dad and I built a deck a couple years ago. This is the best picture I could find. We managed to make it perfectly square and level, which was kind of a shock

Tnr. Cats don't usually bother chickens. If anything the chickens will run cats away from there food bowls. Nice coop.

I've heard chickens can usually defend themselves pretty well, but with these two little hunters my mom has, we'd rather not risk any injury to either.

I bet I'm one of very few people here who know what a rat hammock is.
We bought one of the nice store bought ones once. They destroyed it in about a week. So we always just made them after that.

As always: PICS OR YOU'RE LYING!!! :woohoo:

*I kid. Please do not provide pics!*

What kind of birds do you plain on getting? Since you have them in a cage they won't need any rooster protection or guidance. So having one would be a waste. I'm guessing you guys are just wanting eggs not meat. Raccoons are you're enemy now they will destroy your birds.
